Chris Brown has been noticeably absent from several of this year’s award shows, including the Video Music Awards, BET Awards, and Billboard Music Awards, to name a few, but is there still hope that the “Grass Ain’t Greener” singer may make a surprise appearance at tonight’s American Music Awards? With Breezy currently in possession of one AMA nomination for this year’s show and DJ Khaled having confirmed his plans to perform his and Brown’s collaborative track, “Do You Mind,” during tonight’s ceremony, it looks as though some of Brown’s fans are still holding out hope that the singer may walk the red carpet during tonight’s event.

Last month, it was revealed that Chris Brown had been nominated in the “Soul/R&B” category for “Favorite Male Artist” for this year’s AMAs alongside chart-toppers Bryson Tiller and The Weeknd, prompting Breezy to take to Twitter to thank his fans for their continued support despite his lack of attendance at many of this year’s award ceremonies.

While Brown has yet to directly comment on whether or not he has plans to make an appearance during tonight’s American Music Awards, rumors of a surprise performance from the “Ayo” singer were further fueled by DJ Khaled earlier this week after he took to Twitter to confirm his plans to perform his newest track, “Do You Mind,” alongside several collaborators during tonight’s show.

“DO YOU MIND is coming to the @AMAs! I’m performing with @NICKIMINAJ, @1future, @AugustAlsina and @rickyrozay SUNDAY at 8/7c on ABC. #AMAs,” DJ Khaled wrote via the social media site.

It didn’t take long for fans to point out that Chris Brown’s name was noticeably absent from the list of performers set to take the stage at tonight’s AMAs despite serving as a feature on DJ Khaled’s chart-topping track, thus prompting several of Brown’s fans to take to Twitter to express their confusion and disappointment over the singer’s anticipated absence from tonight’s award show.

???????? @AMAs @DJKhaled Well, does this mean @chrisbrown is gonna perform?! We WANT to know or we ain’t gonna watch. #FACTS https://t.co/WPzQKrXvjb

We (team breezy) have had bad luck with award shows. We barely get to see Chris perform anymore. He’s the best performer, I dont get it!

While some fans remain skeptical that Breezy will actually attend the AMAs later this evening, others recently pointed out that with Brown having teased several unreleased projects this year, including his controversial Welcome To My Life documentary, eighth studio album, tentatively titled Lost & Found (Heartbreak On A Full Moon), and various musical collaborations, it’s possible that the singer could be planning to announce an official release date for his new projects given the anticipated attention surrounding tonight’s award ceremony.

There’s only about 40 days left for 2016 to end. Does this caption mean an album or documentary is coming our way? I’ll leave u guessing pic.twitter.com/K0ptxgP9B6

@chrisbrown Please tell me that the date will be revealed on AMA night if you win, but if not then drop the documentary please????????❤️

This isn’t the first time that Chris Brown’s fans have speculated over the singer’s anticipated attendance at an award show; earlier this year, it was heavily rumored that Breezy would make a surprise appearance at the 2016 BET Awards given his long history of performing at the event coupled with his nominations for “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” as well as having been nominated for the coveted “Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award” for his track, “Back to Sleep.” Despite the speculation, Brown ended up not attending the award show and did not secure a win for each of the categories for which he was nominated.

Similarly, Chris Brown seemingly shut down fans’ hopes of seeing him perform at many of the industry’s annual award events after publicly bashing award shows in a scathing Instagram post shared to his social media account earlier this year.

Just weeks before the arrival of the 2016 BET Awards in June, Chris Brown took to Instagram to encourage his fans not to “be fooled” by award shows before implying that networks use the annual events in order to increase viewership rather than actually award artists for their accomplishments.

“F*** THEM AWARDS!” Chris Brown began in his Instagram rant, as captured by The Shade Room. “EVERY AWARD SHOW AND AWARD IS FIXED. Networks lie to fans so they can engage in their programs..EVEN THE GRAMMYS. If I don’t perform, I don’t come. It’s just as fake as the industry and they lies these artists tell y’all to gain success. Don’t be fooled.”

Oop! #ChrisBrown #ViewersChoice
