The Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Gala, took over the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City on May 1, and the stars didn’t disappoint when it came to their red carpet looks.
Here’s all the best (and the worst) red carpet looks you need to see from the world’s biggest celebrities as they walked the carpet at 2016 Met Gala, including high-fashion looks from Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and more.
Beyoncé
Following a week of drama, Beyoncé turned heads at the New York fashion gala by slipping into an embellished nude latex gown that screamed Met Gala. Beyoncé kept her hair simple when paired with the floor-length design, helping her to stand out in a sea of white and silver gowns.
Lady Gaga in Versace
Lady Gaga went all space age glam with sky high platform heels and a metallic blue one-piece. Never one to shy away from a fashion statement, Lady Gaga’s 2016 Met Gala outfit sported some serious metallic glamour alongside the “Marry The Night” singer’s all-out hair and make-up, made up of a super teased-blonde wig with bright red lipstick.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington, who just announced that she’s expecting her second child, looked almost unrecognizable when she walked the Met Gala red carpet. The Scandal star went in a completely unique direction with her Gothic-themed look, complete with full-length gloves, that appeared to border on Halloween costume.
Katy Perry in Prada
Katy Perry stayed covered-up in the sophisticated black velvet and gold high-fashion gown that made Katy look like the futuristic Queen of the Met Gala. Perry looked regal with full-length black leather gloves in this stunning trumpet floor-length dress, which was perfectly tied together by Katy’s insanely high beehive.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in Balmain
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West twinned in silver Balmain when they hit the Met Gala red carpet together. The couple coordinated their looks in matching silver ensembles, though Kanye opted to keep things surprisingly casual for the formal event, hitting the New York fashion night in ripped blue jeans and a bedazzled denim jacket.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Largely regarded as the Queen of the Met Gala thanks to her seemingly never ending high-fashion looks at the annual New York event, Sarah Jessica Parker played things a little safer following the outrageous headpiece she donned for last year’s event.
This time, Parker kept things chic in white with a stomach baring top teamed with cropped white pants and a statement coat with nude netting oozing from the sleeve. But, it wasn’t all monochromatic with Sarah’s 2016 Met Gala ensemble, as the Sex and the City star added a pop of color with electric blue heels.
Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton
Selena Gomez strayed a little from her usual look with her 2016 Met Gala outfit, opting for a black leather crop-top over a long black and white dress. Staying away from the stiletto, Gomez walked the red carpet in chunky, black boots.
Blake Lively in Burberry
Valentine’s Day came a little early for Blake Lively in this stunningly romantic red carpet gown. The actress turned heads at the Met Gala with her strapless blush pink ensemble that featured red petal-like embellishments peeking out of the bodice and a show stopping red and pink cape. Blake also dressed-up her Met look with quirky pink drop earrings and a serious bun.
Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton
Taylor Swift kept her recent grunge looking going when she hit the 2016 Met Gala red carpet. Swift made a serious statement with this strong look, which was made up of a cut-out silver snakeskin halter dress teamed with edgy, knee-high black strappy heels. Swift also opted to set off her Met Gala look with her platinum blonde bob and deep purple lipstick.
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
Alicia Vikander took a serious fashion risk with her Met Gala outfit, which saw her perfectly match the red, white, and peach red carpet. Alicia’s Louis Vuitton Met ensemble brought together a slew of different fabrics, including what appeared to be a red leather bralet over a gold sleeveless dress and a black leather panel. Vikander highlighted her unique Met look with chunky boot heels.
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Nicole Kidman donned a crown and cape while attending the New York fashion event with husband Keith Urban. Kidman stopped traffic with her embellished and seriously low-cut Met Gala gown with matching cape that served up a midnight fantasy with shimmering moon designs.
Rita Ora in Vera Wang
Rita Ora went all out with her silver feather Met gown. Ora’s look was serious head-to-toe glamour, featuring a cut-out bodice and framed metallic feathers across the chest that cascaded down into a full-on feather train.
Will.i.am
Will.i.am got very fashion forward for his Met Gala look. The on hiatus Black Eyed Peas band member donned a bowler hat with a black tinted visor for his red carpet walk, which matched his all-black suit set off by white flowers on the sleeves.
Kendall Jenner in Versace
Kendall Jenner stunned in very strategically placed blue sequins on her skin-baring Met Gala floor-length gown. There was no hiding for Kendall as her supermodel looks were on full-display in her sophisticated outfit, which perfectly showed off her tall frame and killer figure.
Demi Lovato in Moschino
Demi Lovato kept things conservative but quirky with her black, silver and gold gown. Lovato’s Met Gala gown featured silver sequins broken up by black fabric that beautifully showed off Demi’s showstopping curves.
