Atomic Grill in West Virginia apparently takes reviewer comments to heart — which, when you consider a recent request by a customer that female servers “show more skin,” can seem like a potential thing.
Apparently, one Urbanspoon commenter didn’t think waitresses at Atomic Grill in Morgantown were living up to his expectation they be ogle-able as a bonus perk with his meal. Opining online that the staff “should show more skin” could have led to a management edict mandating skimpier clothing for the women employed with the joint.
But that isn’t what happened! And what did happen is awesome!
Atomic Grill’s owner Daniel McCawley got wind of the lecherous request, and like many owners, he was prompted to do something about it. But instead of forcing his staff to strip down, he came up with the coolest “yes” ever for customer Creepy McLecherson.
McCawley devised a promotion, from now until Memorial Day, offering more skin… potato skin.
For $7, Atomic Grill customers can purchase an order of potato skins, and here’s the cool part. 100 percent of the proceeds from the now-viral promotion will be donated to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information Services.
Of the move, McCawley explains his reaction initially upon reading the leering comment:
“It was brutish. I was upset. I’m a husband and a father of a 12 year old girl. I have five sisters and it was just offensive.”
The Atomic Grill proprietor adds:
“If you have a minute, have some potato skins, try some fresh, local barbecue and give to a good cause. It’s important to us, it should be important to the community.”
The promotion and the owner’s response have traversed the web this week, prompting a huge response on social sites like Facebook.
Yesterday, the Atomic Wings page had the following update, beginning:
“From all of us at Atomic, we would like to thank everyone who has come to check out our page, offer kind words of support, and come to visit us at Atomic Grill. When we come up with an idea like the ‘Show us some skin’, we never in our wildest dreams expected it to take off like this did. We are humbled and excited that everyone has responded to it so positively.”
It continues:
“We value our employees as much as our own families, and if we can turn something negative into a positive for our community, then all the better.”
You can support Atomic Grill’s “show us some skin” promotion on Facebook, and even donate directly to the charity over on Facebook.
