Robin Thicke will help further blur the lines between sports and pop music January 31, when he will be the featured entertainment at ESPN’s 10th annual pre-Super Bowl party, The Hollywood Reporter says.

This year, the annual event has been “rebranded” as ESPN The Party. Fans whose invitations must have been lost in the mail can check out a new ESPN microsite, espntheparty.com, to keep up with the festivities.

“I’m excited to help celebrate ESPN’s 10th year as one of the hottest Super Bowl parties,” said Robin Thicke in a statement. “Performing at ESPN The Party combined with NYC’s energy Super Bowl weekend is definitely going to be memorable.”

Multi-Grammy-nominated rapper Kendrick Lamar will share top billing with Robin Thicke, whose controversial “Blurred Lines” single was 2013′s big winner as far as the music industry was concerned.

Despite intense debate over whether the song’s lyrics were advocating date rape, and the accompanying “Blurred Lines” video in which several nude women danced seductively around the nattily clad Robin Thicke, the song topped sales charts last year with 6.5 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures cited by USA Today.

The 36-year-old son of former Growing Pains star Alan Thicke also scored a hit with music fans who prefer to stream their music online through various services such as Spotify. Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” was streamed almost 140 million times, making it the seventh-most-streamed song of 2013.

Incidentally, Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” led the way in that category with just shy of a half-billion streams last year.

The ESPN The Party event takes place in lower Manhattan at Pier 36, across the water from New Jersey’s Meadowlands where the Super Bowl is scheduled to be played outdoors in frigid temperatures. AccuWeather is now predicting a high temperature of just 32 degrees on Super Bowl Sunday, with lows down to 22 — and snow showers possible.

The game marks the first time the Super Bowl has been played outdoors in a cold weather climate. Except for games played indoors in domed stadiums, the game has always been played in warm-weather states. California has hosted 11 Super Bowls, Florida has hosted 10, Texas four, and Arizona 3.

California will also host next year’s game at Levi’s Stadium, which will become the new home of the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.

This year’s game pits the winners of today’s conference championship playoffs. The NFC’s 49ers or Seattle Seahawks will face either the Denver Broncos or New England Patriots from the AFC.

The actual Super Bowl Half Time show this year features Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Mars will need some of that “red hot” heat as he takes the stage in front of the game’s worldwide TV audience.

“I know it’s going to be cold, and I’ve just got to face it,” Mars said, not sounding too enthusiastic. Robin Thicke, for his part, gets to relax indoors during the game if he so chooses, his performing obligations completed.
