As Ronda Rousey’s star continues to rise, so too does exposure for women’s mixed martial arts. A generation of young women will grow up influenced by and wanting to be Ronda Rousey. MMA and video game fans everywhere will have that opportunity when Rousey appears in EA’s UFC video game, slated for Spring, 2014 release.

The EA and the Ultimate Fighting Championship recently announced that light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones will grace the cover for the video game and fans will vote, tournament-style, to see who will join him. Jones has a favorite in mind.

“I would love to share the cover with Ronda Rousey because I’m a huge fan of hers,” Jones said via Yahoo Sports. “It would be so huge for women’s MMA to have her on there and just women’s sports in general and really the whole sport of MMA.”

Rousey and rival Miesha Tate already made history as the first female coaches on the UFC’s unscripted show, The Ultimate Fighter. On the show, part proving ground, part finishing school for prospective UFC fighters, Ronda and Miesha are also coaching the first coed season, with women’s MMA being introduced into the UFC in February of this year. Rousey and Tate will now make history as the first female fighters as playable characters in a UFC video game.

“Since we added the Women’s Bantamweight division earlier this year, the women have impressed everyone,” said UFC president Dana White. “The fights are always exciting, Ronda Rousey is as talented as any champion in the UFC and her rivalry with Miesha Tate is one of the most intense in UFC history. The female division has become a huge part of the UFC and fans will now be able to experience fighting with them in the game.”

As the UFC’s women’s division is still in its infancy, Rousey and Tate will be the only playable females. But with the ever-growing popularity of women’s MMA, look for more female UFC stars to be ready to throw down for the next video game.
