As Denise talked about in Issue #75, a great way to build customer loyalty is to have a periodic email newsletter in your business. Newsletters are a powerful way to deliver high-quality content, while also making a profit.
Email newsletters can provide big rewards for your business. They can connect you to new customers, keep you in the minds of existing customers, create bigger brand exposure for new offerings, and increase sales for your business.
So, let’s look at three different ways you can use email newsletters to generate more revenue for your business. (If you are not sure how to format and lay out your email newsletter, refer back to Issue #75 where Denise walks you step-by-step through on how to do this).
Strategy 1: Offer It As A Bonus To A Product Sale
When a customer buys a product service from you, offer to send them your newsletter as a bonus if they give you their email address. This not only provides you with a means to communicate with them in the future, but it also provides you with an opportunity to sell another product or service to them.
For example, your email newsletter can contain certain product coupons or special discounts that are only offered to customers who subscribe to your newsletter. This is a great way for you to entice them to sign up to receive your email newsletter.
Another way to generate more revenue for your business with email newsletters is to promote products in your newsletter.
Strategy 2: Promote Your Products Or Other People’s Products
The way you monetize your newsletters is by offering products and services to your subscribers, and ideally offers that are related content within your newsletter. Your readers can then buy the product or service if they want more information, but never feel like the product is being shoved down their throat.
This soft-selling approach builds greater loyalty, and also can increase your sales far more than traditional email marketing when it is done correctly.
You can include these product or service offers within a dedicated section like a “Check It Out” section, or in banner ads placed throughout the newsletter. Take for example, in our below “Check It Out” section, we are promoting MaryEllen Tribby and her successful newsletter business model.
In addition, if you have your own products to sell, you can either focus on promoting your own products, or also feature third party offers from time to time so your readers don’t get bored with the same offers all the time.
If you do not want to promote your products or other third party offers, you can also sell your newsletter to generate more revenue for your business.
Strategy 3: Sell Your Newsletter
You can also make money for your business by selling your newsletter for a monthly or annual subscription rate, especially if you offer specific industry information.
For example, if your newsletter focuses on financial information about the stock market, then you could to sell your newsletter to individuals who want to learn more about stock trading or the stock market in general. Just make sure that you provide them with great content and information that would be willing to pay for.
Another strategy you can use is to offer a free newsletter subscription, but then sell one or more of the articles (together or separately) on digital powerhouses such as Amazon.
Once you have a consistent system for creating newsletters, you can monetize that content in so many different ways. These are just a few examples to get you started.
But here’s the key point. If you are not using email newsletters as part of your marketing strategy, you may be missing out on an opportunity to generate more revenue for your business.
