Celebrated Philadelphia rockers MAN MAN has just announced a series of North America live dates in support of their highly anticipated new album On Oni Pond. The record is set to arrive in stores this September 10th via Anti-.

In an early review of the first track off the new album, Pitchfork writes, “Head On” finds Honus Honus making the most out of his wealth of experience, transmuting it into wisdom and empathy. “Head On” sounds surprisingly direct for Man Man: Honus asks the listener to hold on to their heart in any number of emotionally difficult situations, to “hold it high above flood waters,” “never let nobody drag it under,” not “even when the whole world’s bitter.” It resonates largely because Man Man themselves have taken their licks and endured, evolving from their excitable and divisive Beefheart/Zappa-influenced early work into rich and resonant piano pop that values populism over provocation.” http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15729-man-man-head-on/

Praise from the blog world continues to pour in with Stereogum calling “Head On,” “a song that sounds brave simply because of its sweet melody and the lovelinessof Honus’s lyrics;” Consequence of Sound offering, “In their own bizarre way, Honus Honus and Pow Pow have crafted a motivational tune, delivering strange-yet-beautiful life advice (“Hold on to your heart/ Never let nobody drag it under”) over lush harmonies, muted guitars, and random bits of string work.” And The Needle Drop adding, “With this new track, Man Man is standing on the merits of their songwriting….The synth melodies are breezy, and the string arrangements that come through toward the song’s finish are gorgeous. The chords have a certain sourness to them as well, reminding fans that Man Man will always have a bit of darkness to them–no matter how accessible the songs get.”
