A wealth of atomic-powered, sock it to me R&B and rock & roll hoodoo. NEW BLOODSHOT RELEASES TO TICKLE YER EARS:
EDDIE SPAGHETTI – THE VALUE OF NOTHING
Eddie Spaghetti, front man for those Seattle-based pleasure barons of arena garage punk The Supersuckers, kicks out his first solo album of all originals. You might find that songwriting distinction surprising—given his lifetime traveling to two-bit hotels and dumpy backstages in order to spend a couple glorious hours on stage throwing devil’s horns and country-damaged metal to the adoring masses—but it’s the truth. The Value of Nothing distills everything he’s learned in his career-long, over-the-top and tongue-in-cheek adoration of all things rock and roll into a genre-scoffing dose of snarling country rock, full of pop hooks and wiseguy humor delivered with a brain, a heart, & a beer.
“… full of songs that pull from the best of everything Eddie Spaghetti has to offer…It reminds me of the solo albums Mike Ness of Social Distortion unleashed several years back. This will draw in the fans of rock, the fans of country and the folks that just flat out dig good music. Crank it loud, pop a cold beer and enjoy.”–Examiner.com
“…approaches his rootsy solo project from the perspective of a punk rocker who grew up in a country town. The Value of Nothing shows off both influences plus all the wild-man energy of Spaghetti’s live shows.” – CMT Edge
“It’s in your face politically incorrect (and pretty funny) country rock that rocks to the point where you’re subconsciously reaching for a beer and digging for the appropriate lie to tell that temporarily significant other lurking at the bar.” – Ventura County Star
DEADSTRING BROTHERS – CANNERY ROW
“Detroit’s finest Americana combo stretches winning streak to five LPs…an embarrassment of riches.”–Uncut UK
“Their most varied, and rewarding album to date…offering tunes that span the spectrum between strum-driven Americana, to an ample dose of classic rock hooks, to tried and true singer-songwriter woven narratives.” –No Depression
“Cannery Row mixes the band’s Motor City roots with analog Americana, retro twang and a healthy obsession with Southern California’s country-rock glory days.” – American Songwriter
Cannery Row has a loose-limbed melancholy reminiscent of the Laurel Canyon folk scene, the outlaw Nashville days, as well as the Upstate New York counterculture spirit of the Band. Like a hitchhiker with a dirty backpack, a beat up guitar case and a wistful distant smile, the Brothers have piled up stories like the highway miles and created something pretty damn close to that old Gram Parsons dream of Cosmic American Music.
WAYNE “THE TRAIN” HANCOCK GET “RIDE” NOW
“The ghost of Hank Williams hangs heavily over many of these tracks, but also you’ll hear echoes of Chuck Berry,Ernest Tubb and even ol’ Jimmie Rodgers…Production by Lloyd Maines is clean and perfectly captures the essence of yesteryear’s country music with a modern sheen that makes retro perfectly acceptable in 2013. The Austin-based singer is entirely convincing throughout. 4 Stars.” –Maverick (UK)
“This is genuine country. This is blues and swing. This is the rockabilly rebel jammin’ gears with the best of them and what emerges is a regal one fisted salute to what went before all wrapped up in the slick sureness of right damn now. Ride? Hell, yeah. A wild one. A jerk your heart out ode to everything soulful and right about country. Ebullient, traditional, classic country.” – Canada.com
Ride further cements Wayne’s life-long calling [“All I want to do is play the Joints ‘til the day I die”] as a modern-day traditionalist through his signature mélange of roadhouse blues, hepcat boogie, rockabilly, and juke joint swing.
JC BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND – HOWL!
“At once a confessional break-up album and a critique of the whole concept of telegraphed heartache, Howl is soul with its jacket off.”–NPR Music
“Although there’s plenty of melody in the Uptown Sound’s arrangements, it leans more towards Stax than Motown, occasionally with a punk-like amount of unbridled intensity. The band’s third album, Howl, is a gritty and vulnerable album of R&B cuts that sound like a gritty soul take on Ryan Adams’ Heartbreaker.”–KEXP Seattle
“Howl is a soulful 50-minute experience that will rock listeners to the core.” – Aquarian Weekly
Howl is soul music by children of the post-punk era. It’s the sound of a band that cut its teeth listening to Purple Rain and In On the Killtaker, is drawn to the theatrical-cum-creative auras of Tina Turner and Otis Redding, and has most recently hustled big festival stages where adventurous listeners come away rejuvenated and undeniably converted.
LUKE WINSLOW-KING – THE COMING TIDE
Listening to The Coming Tide is like taking a stroll through the artist’s adopted home of New Orleans; his Bloodshot label debut is the sound of community, emotional duality, spiritualism, and lived-on-the-streets-not-stored-in-abottle historical preservation. It is the sound of rickety wooden porches on humid summer days, the grimy streets of New Orleans’ neighborhoods beyond the French Quarter, the celebration and solemnity of centuries old churches and gathering places, and the anything-is-possible attitudes of smoky music halls and folk clubs. The result is a vibrant amalgam of early 20th century jazz, Delta blues, American folksong, and Southern gospel.
“Winslow-King processed his classical training and life experiences into a boiled-down live, almost improvised, sound that seamlessly melds Delta blues, gospel and jazz themes with personal, simplified lyrics that speak to his personal and artistic evolution. It also makes for one heck of a road trip companion.” – New York Times T Magazine
“The Coming Tide, which is an organic mesh of country blues, traditional jazz, gospel, ragtime, folk, and a dash of rock & roll, somehow emerging as both ragged and elegant all at once.” – AllMusic.com
“The Coming Tide is easily my favorite album that will be released in the first quarter of 2013; be sure to give this one a listen!” – Record Dept.
