Essa township has taken the first step towards a comprehensive energy management and saving program.
After hearing a delegation from Honeywell Canada at the last council meeting, council agreed to have further discussions with the company on its proposals to save the township upwards of $650,000 per year on its energy bills.
The full program suggested by Honeywell would see the township spend $6,000,000 on a variety of arrears including street lighting, building energy efficiency, waste water plant and arena efficiencies.
The full program would save the township a minimum of $650,000 per year and provide other efficiencies in terms of staff time and improved management of the township’s resources.
Honeywell also said that it could undertake the improvements in phases or at one or two facilities at a time.
A report will come back to council on possible options for the township. Honeywell Canada has undertaken similar energy saving programs for Simcoe County and Newmarket.
