Local physiotherapist Kyle Murphy has started a new clinic in Alcona. West Shore Physiotherapy has recently opened in a new location at the Crossroads Plaza on Innisfil Beach Road.

Since moving into the area as a physiotherapist at the Lakeside Clinic in January, Murphy has already provided numerous clients with physiotherapy and massage services.

Aside from physiotherapy, Murphy is able to offer a variety of services out of his new clinic, including laser therapy, acupuncture and massage therapy.

Murphy completed a Bachelor of Science in Honours Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in 2008. While at UWO, Murphy was the athletic trainer for the Men’s Soccer team. He continued his training at McMaster University where he completed his Masters in Physiotherapy in 2010.

Since graduating, he has worked in private physiotherapy clinics focusing predominantly on musculoskeletal disorders.

He has continued to advance his skills by taking courses from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, the Advanced Physiotherapy Education Institute and continues to work through his Orthopaedic Division of the CPA’s manual therapy program.

“A good physiotherapy assessment will allow for successful treatment, so we focus on a very detailed bio-mechanical assessment of both the area and the joints in the area as well as the person as a whole to determine what needs to be worked on to resolve the problem,” he said.

“We often use a number of techniques, like joint mobilization and soft tissue techniques, exercises, as well as a variety of modalities that includes acupuncture, ultrasounds, TENS and interferential currents.”

Kimberly McCaskie has come on as the registered massage therapist.

McCaskie grew up in Barrie and moved to Innisfil with her husband in 2000. She graduated from Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and was registered in 1998.

McCaskie then had a successful practice at a Bradford clinic before taking a few years off to be home with her children.

She has been back to work for three years and is striving to build her practice here in Innisfil and has also taken additional courses in prenatal and indie head massage.

Murphy said he and his team are looking forward to getting more involved in the community, including working with local sports teams.

“We are proud to be a sponsor of the Innisfil Winterhawks PeeWee A team for the 2013-2014 season.”
