Selling and manufacturing premium furniture is not just a business for us. Here at In Living, we make sure that the furniture we sell is equally appealing to us as it is to you while making sure it is soft on mother earth. To ensure premium quality, we follow Sustainable Manufacturing Practices. Firstly, right quality wood is selected through a rigorous quality check while ensuring they come from legal sources. The selected logs are then sent for treatment - chemical & seasoning (drying). Wood treatment ensures protection of wood from insects, moisture, and decay fungi, this enhances both durability and stability of solid wood furniture. Treated wood is then sent for machining to saw it into components or individual parts and subsequently for sanding and pre-finishing to provide each piece with a smooth texture. Components are then sent for assembly wherein individual pieces are assembled into an elegant piece of premium furniture. After the whole furniture is assembled, it is sent for surface finishing which adds an attractive and appealing appearance to the furniture in its entirety, also the right polish closes most pours on wood which reduce moisture intake of wood and hence increase its life. Finally this furniture is packaged and delivered to your doorstep in the most reliable manner.
We will expand on each step of the process followed by In Living from wood selection to delivery in a more comprehensive manner.
Wood Selection –In Living furniture uses a wide variety of Indian and imported woods, Indian species include Sheesham, Mango and Acacia all of which are suitable for Indian and international conditions and widely used wood, not only these we use imported oak wood from Germany and USA and Ash wood from Germany. Rich grain and excellent strength make these wood types the candidate for all kind of furniture usage. Wood as we all are aware is a gift of nature and each tree is unique, in its composition, colour and texture. The grains and colour of one species are similar enough to show their characteristic, at the same time just as human beings, no two pieces are alike, for example, Colour Pattern of Sheesham wood varies from Golden Brown to Dark Brown and the wood has a varying streak pattern from white to light brown. The wood we select for our furniture is fully aged and free from any termites etc. It is also made sure that the texture of the wood is course and has matching grains making it ideal for premium furniture. The wood that we use is then treated to have low moisture content so that it responds well to polishing, screwing, gluing and turning.
Wood treatment – Chemical & Seasoning – The wood selected is then sent for chemical treatment. We use vacuum pressure impregnation technology so as to ensure that the chemicals go deep into the grain of wood rather than stay only on the top layer using the old fashioned paint model. The chemically treated wood is then seasoned in hi-tech steam heated kilns. Dry Wood is not only stronger than Green Wood but as the moisture content in wood goes down the bending etc of wood reduces and hence improves product stability. This helps in ensuring that the furniture you buy is long lasting and reliable as promised. Drying and treating the wood ensures that you buy a termite, insecticide and pesticide resistant furniture. Dry wood increases the life of the furniture. We ensure that the final product is of supreme quality through strict measures taken in each step of the process. Here we would like to mention that wood is living and does not ever die until burnt, it means based on external conditions and weather it continues to absorb and give away moisture and hence change shape in a very small manner on a daily basis, this however due to engineering of the product usually does not affect performance until and unless there are extreme conditions which are created.
Machining – Once the wood is treated it is ready to be worked upon to be converted into a beautiful and durable piece of furniture. We use wood working machinery from Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Sweden, China and India to make sure a world class product is available to our customers. Almost all machinery is state of art and minimises the human error in the pieces being created. Logs or planks of wood are shaped in different components to make a functional piece of furniture. We at In Living, use state of the art Pneumatic Jointing Machine to join planks strongly & neatly. Jointed planks are cut into desired components using different mechanisms like tongue and groove, mortise and tenon, rabbet, butt, double dowel and dovetail depending upon furniture type. It is also important to screen out the external elegance of the furniture you buy, this involves sawing the wood into individual parts, the parts smoothened and sanded. This ensures that the grains of the wood come out beautifully. Unwanted dust and oil is also removed to provide an even surface for polishing. This step ensures that individual pieces of wood look elegant and at the end are sturdy enough. This step is extremely important, utmost quality checks are performed to make sure that final product complies with our high quality standards.
Pre- finishing - After individual pieces are sanded, they are sprayed and sponged. This ensures that the grains on the individual pieces swell and rise which enhances the aesthetic beauty of the furniture. Sheesham generally has raised fibres and this step ensures that the granular pattern of the wood is accentuated to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the final product.
Assembly - When all individual pieces are in perfect shape it is important to execute the next step with equal vision. Assembling might sound an easy process but requires immense concentration and patience, the right technique distributes load all over the pieces and ensures joints and pieces do not move much during usage. We ensure joints do not wobble and at the same time remain hidden which preserves the outer appearance of the furniture.
Surface Finishing - After the furniture has been assembled, it is finally processed for surface finishing which involves applying a multilayer coating with stain, filler, base coat, colour coat and then lacquer or topcoat. The process is conducted using air pressure guns which ensure a uniform coat as well as a nice clear look on the furniture pieces. This gives the furniture a natural texture and keeps it resistant to fungi and termites while bringing out a consolidated grain pattern of the furniture. This concludes the furniture manufacturing process.
Packaging and Delivering - The final product is thoroughly inspected before the furniture is covered with air tight bubble wrap, and packed into shock proof foam structures. The finished product is then dispatched to retails outlets, regional warehouses and finally to your beloved homes. Sophisticated machinery is used to load and unload your furniture. We make sure that the furniture is packaged with multilayer apparatus to prevent any damage during transit. Our logistics team ensures that the final product is delivered to your doorstep within ten weeks of the order placement date.
We understand the sentiment that goes behind the furniture purchase decision.
