COLFAX — Marcia Parish, a fiber artist from Moscow, will talk about her art and her creative process in a free Meet the Artist presentation at 7 tonight at the Whitman County Library here, 102 S. Main St.

Parish worked in computer systems in Washington, D.C., for 22 years before retiring and moving with her husband, Rob, to his hometown of Moscow.

She owned and operated the Needle Nook, a yarn store, and learned to knit and began experimenting in fiber.

She now works with fabric, fiber, paints, dyes beads and many different needlework methods to create her pieces, which are both wearable and displayable, according to a news release.

PULLMAN — Jazz Night at Gladish will feature a free concert by a variety of groups and musicians at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gladish Community and Cultural Center here.

Musicians attending will be from the Washington State University Jazz Combo, Pullman High School and from the Asotin High School Jazz Band. Pork Pie Hat, featuring Brian Clark, Dave Hoyt, Jack Purdie, Eric Sorensen and Scotty Thompson, also will perform.

The concert is in Domey Auditorium at the center, 115 N.W. State St.

Refreshments will be provided during intermission and donations are accepted.

KAMIAH — The sixth annual Buttermilk Festival here begins with breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday at Riverfront Park.

The Kamiah Valley Historical Society is host for the event that features butter-making beginning at 10 a.m., followed by slathering it on freshly baked bread. The festival also features vendors, demonstrations, a children’s play area, a Cow Pie Plop raffle and a bowling tournament. It concludes at 3 p.m.

The schedule includes:

7-11 a.m. — Buttermilk pancake breakfast featuring pancakes, ham, eggs, biscuits and gravy and a drink, all you can eat for $7

9 a.m. and 1 p.m. — Buttermilk Bowl bowling tournament, Tamarack Lanes (entry information: Sandie Daeges, (208) 926-4225)

10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. — cream distribution for making butter

11 a.m. — art exhibit

Noon — Cow Pie Plop 50/50 drawing (Tickets available at the Hub)

PULLMAN — Beans ’n’ Jeans, the annual fundraiser for Palouse Habitat for Humanity, is 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory Event Center here.

The event will feature barbecue foods from CD’s Smoke Pit in Moscow, silent and live auctions, a dessert auction and live bluegrass music by Forgotten Freight, based on the Palouse.

Tickets are $40 each and are available by calling the Habitat for Humanity office at (208) 883-8502, online at www.PalouseHabitat.org or by emailing habitatmoscowcom by 5 p.m. Friday.

The event center is at 1825 Schweitzer Drive.

MOSCOW — Astronaut and the Trees will headline a concert that begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at Moscow’s Nuart Theater.

Moscow bands Skinny the Kid and An American Forrest also will play the concert with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.

Astronaut and the Trees is a two-man indie rock band from Lewiston featuring Andru Gomez on guitar and vocals, and Will Thompson on drums.

Cost is $4 in advance or $5 at the door. Tickets are available at Deadbeat Records in Moscow.

LEWISTON — The Lewis-Clark Community Concert Band will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lewiston High School auditorium.

The band will be joined by the Fair Winds Brass Quintet, composed of concert band members David Wilkinson of Lewiston on trumpet, John Alley of Clarkston on trumpet, Louise Van Vogt of Pomeroy on french horn, Matt Lieberman of Lewiston on trombone and Garry Walker of Clarkston on tuba. Walker also will direct the concert.

The concert is free but donations are accepted.

LEWISTON — The Lewis-Clark State College Choir Spring Concert is 7 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church here, 1906 Broadview Drive.

The free performance is under the direction of Joel Pals.

POMEROY — “Pioneer/Historical” is the name of the latest exhibit opening Tuesday at the Blue Mountain Artisans Guild Art Center here, 745 Main St.

An opening reception will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The show will feature art showing the pioneer side of life or anything historical to Pomeroy or the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

The show will continue through June 27. The center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
