This encounter is currently the 3rd oldest Schools Cricket Encounter in Sri Lanka, as it concluded on the 1st of March of 2014 with Royal emerging as the victors in an encounter where the Royalists’ showed sheer cricketing brilliance in all aspects, be it Batting, Fielding and specially Bowling!

The statistics for the Encounter is as follows.

Royal College (1st innings) – 179 all out in 46.4 overs

Hasitha Samarasinghe – 44 runs

Trinity College (1st Innings) – 104 all out in 28.2 overs

Randev Pathirana  - 5 wickets for 23 runs

Malith Kariyawasam – 2 wickets for 16 runs

Chamika Karunaratne – 2 wickets for 27 runs

Anupa Tillekaratne – 1 wicket for 20 runs

Royal College (2nd innings) – 193/5 declared at lunch.

Shaminda Dias – 99 runs not out

At the point of declaration, Royal had a lead of 268 runs which gave Trinity College a target of 269 runs to win.

Trinity College (2nd innings) – 138 all out in 27.3 overs. **

Devind Pathmanathan – 5 wickets for 27 runs

Randev Pathirana –  3 wickets for 55 runs

Malith Kariyawasam – 1 wicket for 19 runs.

Royal Won by 130 runs.

** With the score on 138/9, the last man of the Trinity College Batting line-up was unable to come out to bat due to an injury which was picked up while fielding. Therefore the match was awarded to Royal College.

As this emphatic win was the final game before the Battle of the Blues, the boys have definitely lifted their level of confidence and are ready for the three big days.

With Shaminda Dias and Randev Pathirana showing unmatched class in the batting department, and both Devind Pathmanathan and Randev Pathirana solidifying the bowling attack of the Royal line-up along with the Captain, Chamika Karunaratne and the rest of the team mates, it can be safely said that we will witness an epic encounter on the 13th, 14th and 15th of March, 2014, as the Royal Cricket Team will give it their all in retaining the Senanayake Shield and keeping it where it belongs!

The Battle of the Blues Encounter will be the Final games played for Royal by three crucial members of the side.
