Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice Leader to join the Broadband & TV team of Informa Telecoms & Media’s Industry Research division. The Broadband & TV team provide many of the world’s major operators, Internet firms, consumer electronics companies, broadcasters, and film and TV studios with trusted research and advice about telecoms, TV and digital media.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in managing and expanding Informa’s market-leading coverage of TV markets and strategies.
The position is best-suited to a self-motivated and confident individual, who is able to express their opinion through thought-provoking reports, industry presentations and media appearances. The successful candidate will also have an exemplary track record for managing and developing teams and forging strong relationships with sales, marketing, senior management, and clients.
Key responsibilities:
Lead your team of analysts – guiding them to accomplish their work objectives whilst ensuring they are continually learning and developing towards their full potential, both individually and collectively
Produce distinctive, market-leading analysis for a senior-level executive audience
Work with other Practice Leaders, Principal Analysts, and Forecasters to devise and co-ordinate Informa Telecoms & Media’s long-term research agenda
Support the identification and development of sales prospects and the nurturing of new and existing client relationships to grow Informa Telecoms & Media’s presence in the IT/Telecoms/Media sector globally as measured by personal and team commercial targets for new business, renewals, and consultancy
Lead and deliver profitable ad hoc advisory engagements for clients – with a focus on engagements that support key accounts/prospects and leverage and contribute to Informa Telecoms & Media’s published research agenda
Present at industry conferences, client strategy sessions, sales meetings and act as a public face of Informa Telecoms & Media
Develop and refine the regional research coverage, while representing the global Informa Telecoms & Media services
Leverage your reputation in the IT, Telecoms and/or Media industry as an analyst who is unafraid to take a stand on major issues, backed by up-to- date sector knowledge
Be a highly effective networker within your industry, connecting with senior industry executives and further building your own footprint and that of Informa Telecoms & Media in the industry
Work closely with sales and marketing to ensure a highly effective client strategy is developed and executed and business development opportunities are capitalised upon
Take and encourage a highly collaborative approach to your work, by working with global team members and peers wherever possible in order to make the most of company resources
Support the Informa Telecoms & Media Events team, where relevant, through the delivery of compelling presentations, delegate management and agenda development
Collaborate with practices across Informa Telecoms & Media in order to bring together Informa Telecoms & Media’s unique perspective of the telecom industry and technology practices throughout the communications industry.
Collaborate with other Practice Leaders on key strategic issues and initiatives
Management Responsibilities
Effectively manage your direct reports by focusing and guiding them to accomplish their objectives while ensuring your team are continually learning and developing towards excellence and full potential, both individually and collectively
Ensure appraisals are carried out within the advertised timeframe and reviewed on a regular basis
Ensure team and 1-1 meetings are carried out on a regular basis and that necessary business information is cascaded down to your team
Be pro-active in addressing any performance/conduct issues within your team, seeking advice from HR to ensure the correct processes are followed
Ensure the day-day line management responsibilities such as sickness recording, holiday approval are kept up-to-date
Maximise your team’s potential from the range of resources available in the business to ensure your team are operating at its peak
Skills & Competencies
Proven experience of working within a similar environment, including managing a team, ideally on a global basis
A proven track record of managing a workload to ensure deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded
Proven experience of working with sales and marketing teams
Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to write both short, opinionated pieces and long more complex analyses and have a personable manner and confidence to engage with executives in the industry
Ability to convey complex data and themes using graphics and successfully engage audiences with your ideas
An ability to handle rapidly changing workloads and a willingness to undertake organisational tasks, and ensure activities are monitored and followed through
Strong project management skills: an understanding on how to work with team members, peers and external contacts on internal or external projects; organising work and team time management
Proven experience of successfully handling media coverage, with the ability to build a profile with key journalists and opinion formers
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Highly numerate, with the ability to identify and present complex concepts, trends and data in a compelling visual manner
Proven experience of being an effective team player
