On this day in 2015;Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state in Nigeria, accused members of the Presidential Task force Implementation Committee on the alienation of Federal Government Landed Properties of not working in the interest of Federal Government nor the state.

He therefore, urged that it be disbanded. The task force began its operations during the  immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Also on this day in 1991;A meeting was held in Durban between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) both from south Africa.

The meeting was addressed by Zulu Chief Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi and ANC Deputy President Nelson Mandela, this was the first time in 30 years that these two political rivals had met.

In a joint statement called the Royal Hotel Minute, both parties expressed their commitment to political tolerance and called on the security forces to play an effective peace-keeping role.

And on this day in 1986;Yoweri Kaguta Museveni became president of Uganda. Museveni’s National Resistance Movement, NRM, took power after an army coup removed Apollo Milton Obote from office. (The army’s military rule had been particularly ineffectual, and lasted for just under a month.)
