With one more week to register for the AMB100 Marathon on 9 February at Stromlo Forest Park Ed McDonald the 100-miler Champion from 2012 and 2013 has just confirmed that he will be at the start to defend his titles against some of the strongest endurance riders in the country, including SingleSpeed Solo 24H World Champion Brett Bellchambers and fellow Canberran Andrew Hall. With Meredith Quinlan and Karen Foat it will be a NSW-ACT square off in the female 100-miler field and Scott Chancellor from Lyneham is one of the strongest contenders for the 100km-challenge.
Rocky Trail expects record fields in the 100km and 100miler categories at the race that has been handled as one of the toughest marathon events in Australia. Says Mike Blewitt, experienced marathon racer and editor of headline sponsor, the Australian Mountain Bike Magazine, “Racing at Stromlo is an immense challenge, and as patrons of the AMB100 Marathon, we are excited to present this event for Australian Mountain Bikers. The trails and terrain at Stromlo always determine a deserving winner, and with the variety of challenges on offer from a one lap race to the 100 miler, and with paired racing options, there is something for everyone out there. I’ve raced on every continent except the big frozen one, but the trails and racing I have experienced at Mt Stromlo have always left me both exhausted and exhilarated. This will be one of the toughest races on the Australian calendar, yet the variety of events and location means it is accessible to many.”
Racers will compete on a 30km+ monster circuit that links up most of Stromlo’s popular singletracks. The 100-miler competitors will have to complete 5 laps and start under lights at 5am. All remaining categories will be part of a mass start at 9am.
