Police in Thailand have arrested a bar owner as part of a crackdown on live sex shows sparked by a series of tweets Rihanna posted during her stop in the resort island of Phuket three weeks ago.
Kathu District Chief Veera Kerdsirimonghol told the Phuket Gazette that Warunyoo Jornmuang, owner of the Season bar on Soi Bangla, was taken into custody for “operating an entertainment venue without a permit and for providing a lewd show.”
Authorities launched the unannounced inspection tour, which led to the bust, following some NSFW tweets by the R&B star to her more than 32 million followers in which she recounted being “traumatized” by the X-rated acts she witnessed naked dancers performing during the ping-pong show.
“We wanted to make sure we would see things as they really are and what illegal activities were going on,” Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut told the newspaper regarding the raid, which included the use of plainclothes officers.
Jornmuang reportedly could face up to one month in jail and a $1,900 fine.
This isn’t the first time Rihanna’s tweeting has aided the law.
Just days after she left Phuket last month on her Diamonds world tour, police busted two young men for violating a Thai law prohibiting citizens from charging tourists money to take photos with endangered animals. Cops were tipped off after the Barbadian beauty posted an Instagram photo of her posing with a slow loris with the caption, “Look who was talkin dirty to me!”
Rihanna meanwhile continues her global trek with a show Wednesday in Cape Town, South Africa, followed by gigs in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Tel Aviv, Israel, on Oct. 19 and 22 respectively.
