Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered through central Indiana Thursday.  A weak front will move through the area providing lift to help spark thunderstorms.

A complex of thunderstorms is underway Wednesday evening in Illinois.  Rain may slide in to northern parts of the CBS4 viewing area before sunrise Thursday.  Data suggests a few showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the Indianapolis-metro for the AM commute.

Radar/satellite projection at 12pm Thursday.

Rain should be confined to I-70 and south around noon.

Radar/satellite projection at 3pm Thursday.

With a lull in action during the early afternoon, temperatures should quickly rise back in to the middle/upper 80°s.  This will allow for additional thunderstorm development during the mid-afternoon and continue through the evening.

WEATHER FOR BMW CHAMPIONSHIP

A warm, steamy day expected for the first round of the BMW Championship held at Crooked Stick Golf Club.  Temperatures will start in the 70°s and climb to the middle/upper 80°s by afternoon.  With humidity, heat indices will be in the lower to middle 90°s.

There will be a chance for showers and thunderstorms from morning through afternoon.  It looks like the best chance for rain will be from 2pm through 6pm.

If you are going out to the coarse, be sure to download our CBS4 Weather Authority app (FREE in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store).  You can look at radar and be notified when lightning is nearby.

CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE ROCK-KIND

Did you see the close encounter of the space-kind today?  You would have had to look very close to see it.

According to NASA, a small asteroid passed earth Wednesday afternoon at a distance of about 25,000 miles.  That is about 1/10th the distance from Earth to the moon.  Interestingly, geo-stationary weather and communications satellites orbit 22,000 miles away from the earth.

The asteroid is estimated to be between 25 to 50 feet in diameter.

SEVEN DAY FORECAST

A cold front is expected to move through the area Saturday morning.  Along the front, showers and thunderstorms will be likely.  Breezy northwesterly winds should eventually push rain and clouds out of the area by afternoon.  This will allow for some sunshine but will also usher in cooler, drier air.

Sunday looks to be a great day with high temperatures in the middle 70°s with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.  Great weather for tailgating before the Detroit Lions vs Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium.  Also looks like a great day for the Colts to open the roof and the windows!
