Manufacturers are increasingly using IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN communications to achieve reliable and secure wireless connectivity for mission-critical applications, and to serve as the gateway for next-generation technologies such as the Internet of Things and mobility. The nature of wireless communications demands that standards-aligned security practices be used when designing and implementing wireless networks. This article addresses these considerations in a Converged Plantwide Ethernet architecture.
