This weekend marks the 3-year anniversary of Exploding Rabbit's action platforming, browser game Super Mario Crossover, which melds characters from Master Blaster, Castlevania, Contra, Mega Man, Metroid, Zelda, and more in Mario-like levels. The trailer above highlights the changes for 3.0, set to release in May or June.

The developers decided this time to take the levels from Super Mario Bros. Special. The blog states, "It is a pretty weird game that even has some new items and enemies. Playing the game is an absolute nightmare because it's on an old Japanese computer and it has many technical limitations." Despite requests, SMB The Lost Levels will not come this time around, but they say it will in a future update.

The new map skins seen in the trailer for Super Mario Crossover 3.0 are Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES and SNES), Super Mario Bros. Special, Atari, and Castlevania.

The developers also say they are now settled and ready to work on their successful Kickstarter-funded project Super Retro Squad, due out sometime in 2014.
