Discord Games' Chasm Kickstarter wants to appeal to players who loved Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Diablo by mashing up 2D platforming and procedurally generated dungeon crawling with action-RPG elements. It promises a "fantasy world full of exciting treasure, deadly enemies, and abundant secrets," and the current Windows-only demo offers a slice of that world of sexy pixels.

The Take Arms and 48 Chambers developer is asking for $150,000 to fund a team of 5 to complete the game around May 2014 for Windows, Mac, & Linux. A $15 pledge will net a DRM-free copy of the game. A quick vote on Steam Greenlight will help them reach their digital distribution goal.

My two cents: I initially wanted two-handed combat, but maybe that was my misreading the HUD. Being able to alternate between weapons is also good. I was happy to find there was no permadeath, as the rats killed me quickly once I made my way into the first dungeon. Chasm offers health regeneration early with a water-like source, but I quickly learned that I can only use it once and should use it only when I really need it.

I'm pretty sure Sony or Nintendo will or has already tapped these guys' shoulders, and I won't be surprised if Discord announces console support midway through the campaign.
