BHUBANESWAR: First timer in Naveen Patnaik’s Cabinet, Pratap Keshari Deb, scripted yet other annals of glory after the State Cabinet approved the amendment to BPUT Act, 2002 paving the way for the flamboyant Minister to become Pro-Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

Deb, who holds BJD Government’s key portfolios like Civil Supplies, Consumer Welfare, Technical Education, Training and Employment, brought cheers for Aul and Rajkanika people in Kendrapara district in particular and Odisha in general.Deb also serving as Kendrapara BJD District president.

The Cabinet also had given its nod to reduce term of the Vice-Chancellor of BPUT to 3 years from 5 years. BPUT register post will be reserved for OAS cadre enjoying joint secretary rank.

The Bill will be passed in coming session of Odisha Assembly. One OFS officer enjoying joint secretary rank will be BPUT Finance officer.

Chancellor  have power to constitute selection committees for the teaching posts not below the rank of Assistant Professor, while the Vice-Chancellor would have power to constitute separate selection committees for the teaching posts below the rank of Assistant Professor and non-teaching posts.
