Sanam Re mints Rs.5.04 crore on opening day

Mumbai– Filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar’s love story “Sanam Re”, starring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela in the lead, has registered a promising start with an opening day collection of over Rs.5 crore.

The film, which released on Friday during the Valentine’s Day weekend, collected Rs.5.04 crore on its opening day, read a statement from the makers. Made on a budget of Rs.20.50 crore, “Sanam Re”, Divya’s second directorial venture after 2014 film “Yaariyan”, has already recovered Rs.16 crore from music, satellite and overseas distribution.

Produced by T-Series, “Sanam Re” is expected to see a good growth over the weekend, especially on Valentine’s Day on Sunday. The film also stars veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Fitoor collects Rs.3.61 crore on Day 1

Mumbai–Actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif starrer “Fitoor”, an adaptation of British writer Charles Dickens’s novel “Great Expectations”, minted Rs.3.61 crore on its opening day itself. Made on a production cost of Rs.40 crore, the Abhishek Kapoor directorial is already in a great place financially as the film has already recovered close to 25 percent of its cost, read a statement.

“Fitoor” released on Friday in time for Valentine’s Day as it is said to be a romantic saga. However, the film has received mixed reviews. It will have to perform well on the weekend, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

“Fitoor will need huge numbers/jump on Saturday and Sunday to post a decent weekend total. India biz,” Adarsh posted on Twitter.

You might see me soon on TV, says Juhi

Mumbai–Actress Juhi Chawla says that currently she is listening to numerous scripts, which might take time to make, but she would most likely feature on a television show soon. “I’m still listening to scripts, and films take time to be made, so probably you’ll soon see me again on TV,” said Juhi while interacting with the media after inaugurating a spiritual fair here on Saturday.

Juhi has hosted and featured in numerous award shows and has even come on filmmaker Karan Johar’s “Koffee With Karan” with fellow actress Madhuri Dixit. But her most notable work on television was as a judge on the third season of the popular dance reality show, “Jhalak Dikhla Jaa” where she was accompanied by choreographers Saroj Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant in that season.

Juhi was last seen in “Chalk N Duster”, a film about the lives of teachers. “A few days ago we held a show for 500 teachers and some of them spoke to other teachers and now there’s going to be a show for another 500 teachers. So if you like something and make certain efforts for it, it moves forward. Films definitely takes matters ahead, and if films are made on good topics, it is a positive thing.

“Chalk N Duster” was released on January 15.

SRK’s ‘Dilwale’ goes global via digital route

New Delhi–Yearning to watch Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s fun-filled ride in “Dilwale”? Take the virtual route as Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd will be bringing the movie for home viewing across all major platforms on transnational basis, where consumers can own a digital copy or pay for a viewing.

After the theatrical release of “Dilwale” across 60 countries, the Rohit Shetty-directorial became available on iTunes and Google Play last month, and it will soon make way to other platforms like DTH, DVD, Blue Ray and every other major home entertainment platform, read a statement. With the aim to cater to a wider audience, the film is being made available across all major territories with local sub-titles. And even television partner Sony is doing True Video On Demand to capitalise on this window.

According to the statement, the move is significant as it allows the film to cater to fans in countries where theatrical release is not feasible due to various reasons as “Dilwale” is being made available to them six weeks after theatrical window.

“Dilwale” brought back SRK and Kajol together on the silver screen after a gap of five years with a story laced with action, rib-tickling comedy and romance. It also features Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma.

Purab Kohli’s e-Valentine’s Day plans

Mumbai– Moving on from flowers and cakes, actor Purab Kohli will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with his fiancée Lucy Payton and their daughter Inayat with a “romantic dinner” via Skype chat. As Purab is currently shooting in Mumbai for “Rock On 2” and Lucy is in London, instead of spending time away from each other, the couple decided to make the most of the virtual medium.

“Well, this Valentine’s Day is very special for both Lucy and me as we plan to celebrate it with our little one. It’s just that one day of the year that we get a little extra fancy about saying ‘I love you’. “Since I am currently shooting in Mumbai, we plan to have a romantic meal face-to-face on Skype and chow down together by the flickering glow,” Purab said in a statement.

The actor, who is enjoying the success of his latest Bollywood film “Airlift”, will get married to Lucy next year. The couple was blessed with a daughter last December.

Deja vu college moment for Arjun Kanungo

Singer and music composer Arjun Kanungo, known for popular track “Baaki baatein peene baad”, says going back to his college after garnering fame was special for him. Kanungo, an alumnus of R.D. National College in Bandra West here, performed in his college on February 11 as part of the ninth edition of Cutting Chai festival.

But the interesting part is that Kanungo had formed Cutting Chai during his college days. And going back to his Alma Mater and performing there was a happy moment for him. “My most memorable moments in life are from the National College days and after so many years going back to perform there was a great feeling. It was like homecoming. That too when it’s for Cutting Chai, it makes it even more special.

“It is amazing to see how it has become one of the popular college fests today in Mumbai. It has come a long away from where we started this,” Arjun said in a statement. The festival is known for its long list of celebrity judges — from A.R. Rahman, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Varun Dhawan, Shabana Azmi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others.

Arjun Rampal back in ‘Rock On 2’ mode

Actor Arjun Rampal, who earlier starred in 2008 rock musical drama “Rock On!!”, has returned to the set of its sequel. “Back on set ‘Rock On 2’… The other side of Joe to be the unleashed today… Nervous, can it happen!!! Is this for real,” Arjun, who played Joe Mascarenhas in the original film, tweeted.

The sequel also stars actors Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Prachi Desai and Purab Kohli. Written and directed by Shujaat Saudagar, the film is being produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani with music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
