I remember going to see the Nutcracker ballet when I was a kid. I don’t remember the actual ballet. I remember watching the whole time just so I could be the first to spot my friend Alex. I think she was playing a party guest. I looked and looked and waited and waited. Seeing my friend on stage was way more exciting than any story you could tell with dance and music. These days I’m all about the story, even if I don’t know anyone on stage.
