Police arrested six persons on Friday as they were allegedly selling SIM cards without any document. Although Reliance Jio offered free 4G services connection on basis of instant verification of Aadhaar number of customers. The method of operation of accused was to collect thumb impression of genuine customers and they can sell the SIM cards to others without asking for any documents. Accused were taking unprecedented  amount of money to sell the SIM cards.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amrendra Singh, said “The police have seized 346 Reliance Jio SIM cards, including 14 pre-activated SIMs, and four thumb impression machines”.”The accused used to collect more than one thumb impression of the customer on the impression machine and give him/her one free SIM. At the same time, they would get second SIM activated using the same person’s thumb impression which they have taken deceptively,” Police also reported, investigations were underway to find out if the sold SIM cards were used for any criminal act.

The accused are identified as Ram Hemnani (27), Neeraj Nandlal (23), Deep Badhwani (26), Sunil Chouhan (28), Ranjeet Singh Bhati (24) and Praveen Rathore (22).

The company provides connection on basis of instant verification of Aadhaar number of customers. Jio crossed 100 million subscribers in just 83 days, adding at an average rate of 6 lakh subscribers per day and surpassing the subscriber addition rates of global giants like Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype. More recently, announcing its third quarter results, Reliance Industries had said that its telecom subsidiary Jio has garnered 100 million subscribers as of February 15 2017.

Mukesh Ambani was shocked with this unexpected sale of Reliance Jio and said his telecom venture Reliance Jio has crossed a customer base of 100 million. “Although we set a target for ourselves that we will acquire 100 million customers in shortest time. Even we didn’t imagine that we would do it in months,” said at the three-day Nasscom leadership forum.

Reliance jio have shaked hand with Uber and now Uber will get support payments through Reliance Jio Money from February 20 and Uber will gradually roll out the Jio Money payment option for its users across the country. (ALSO READ: Reliance Jio becomes number 2 telecom network in India, captures almost 23 percent market share)
