Apple’s next generation bezel-less iPhone 8 has long been rumored to sport a refreshed design. The rumors about specifications of the forthcoming device started surfacing, even before the company made iPhone 7 official. Apple iPhone are in 10th year of run and the company is expected to make big announcement this year along with a refreshed line-up of iPhone devices. According to report on AppleInsider, the Cupertino giant filed a patent for ‘Electronic devices having displays with openings’. Apple, with the alleged iPhone 8 is expected to feature an OLED display full of holes.

Apple patent filed ‘describes a method by which various components can be mounted behind perforations in a device screen that are so small as to be imperceptible to the human eye. This arrangement would allow engineers to design a smartphone or tablet with a true edge-to-edge, or full-face display,’ as reported on AppleInsider on Wednesday.

It is expected that these holes would be present on the active part of display mounted in the hood of the device. Further, the display would be connected  to an electronic component paired with the one or more openings in the display. The electronic component is said to be photo-sensitive sensor, such as a camera, light sensor or a illumination-based proximity sensor. The sensor would react to light in order to control features on the device or power up the display.

One or more openings in the display may form a spot for a user to view an external object. The light-emitting display pixels in the spot may be used in embedding a built-in heads-up display.’ The spot and heads-up display would together, when viewed through, user would see digital images overlapped on top of real-world objects.

It is unclear, if Apple is actually planning to implement the mentioned display technology, but reports of the company working on full-face display has surfaced earlier.  The 1oth anniversay Apple iPhone variant is also said to be made available in red color. It is also expected to retain a similar design as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, launched in September 2016. According to earlier rumors and reports, alleged iPhone 8, might be almost bezel-free with invisible home button, all-glass or ceramic body along with wireless charging support. The device is also expected to sport bigger screen size and minimal body to screen ration.

The Cupertino giant is also expected to release alleged iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, later this year along with the 2017 iPhone. Apple was reportedly in talks with Samsung and LG to import OLED displays for their next-gen iPhone.
