After a gap of seven years WWE Backlash was back as pay-per-view event. And it was full on action and . By the end of the SmackDown Live’s first solo PPV event, which was held at the Coliseum Richmond, saw the rise of three new champions. You can watch exclusive video highlights of WWE Backlash 2016 on WWE Network here. The event was high on drama with some backstage action as well. Bray Wyatt attacked Randy Orton backstage and that latter could not turn up for the match. Wyatt later squared off Kane.

Baron Corbin defeated Apollo Crews

It was a hard-fought contest between these two future stars. However, Andre The Giant Battle Royal winner, Baron Corbin, emerged as winner. Apollo Crews agility was not enough to stop Corbin from winning this match via pinfall.

Becky Lynch defeated Carmella, Nikki Bella, Natalya, Naomi and Alexa Bliss

In a Six-Pack Elimination Challenge, Becky Lynch, became the first SmackDown Women’s Champion by defeating her five opponents. While Naomi pinned Alexa Bliss, Natalya tapped out Naomi and then Nikki Bella eliminated Natalya. It then left Becky, Nikki and Carmella in the ring. After Carmella had better of Nikki, Becky sensed an opportunity and attacked Carmella. Becky eventually won the title via submission.

Heath Slater & Rhyno defeated The Usos

After defeating The Hype Bros in a Second Chance Challenge to gain entry into the finals, The Usos faced defeated at the hands of Heath Slater & Rhyno. The newly formed tag team partners now become the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler

Thanks to Maryse, Miz retained his Intercontinental Championship. In a match that saw momentum shifting from one to another, Miz eventually went on to win after Maryse sprayed something on Dolph Ziggler’s face.

Kane defeated Bray Wyatt

As stated earlier, Bray Wyatt’s match against Randy Orton saw the latter fail to turn up due to the injury he suffered backstage ahead of the match. This resulted in Wyatt vs. Kane in a No Holds Barred match. With action on its high during the match, Orton made his way to the middle to hit an RKO on Wyatt. Kane then took over with a chokeslam and won via pinfall.

AJ Styles defeated Dean Ambrose

The best match of the night had a rather sad end. With no one ready to give up, the action kept building up. From springboard splash, horizontal dropkicks to announce tables the match saw it all. However, towards the end the referee got distracted and that allowed Styles to go for a low-blow as he hit Ambrose directly in the groin area.
