New Year 2016 is going to be a roller-coaster ride for Bollywood and its leading superstars, as some amazing movies are gearing up to clash at the box office. For instance, a major clash is going to take place between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan on Eid 2016 with their respective movies Raees and Sultan releasing on the same day. These two stars have recently mended their broken relationship and have once again become the dearest of friends. Moving on, the movie fanatics will see another major clash and that’ll be between Hrithik Roshan vs Akshay Kumar.

New Year 2016 in Bollywood is going to have a lot of action, drama, thriller, suspense, love, comedy and much more in terms of movies releasing, with a fantastic star cast and some fabulous filmmakers. This year (2015) has already seen huge clashes and blockbuster hits at the box office. Here were we bring to you the list of Bollywood movies releasing in the year 2016, with some interesting names like Dangal, Raees, Sultan, Airlift, Ghayal, Sarbjit, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Wazir, Killing Veerappan, and several others. Here are the movies releasing in 2016, month wise:

Movies Releasing in February 2016 - January 1 – Killing Veerappan



The movie Killing Veerappan is directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It features Shivaraj Kumar as Senthamarai Kannan and Sandeep Bharadwaj as Veerappan. The movie is based on Operation Cocoon that was launched to ‘capture or kill’ sandalwood smuggler Veerappan.

January 8 – Wazir



The Bejoy Nambiar directorial Wazir stars Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar in lead roles. Aditi Rao Hydari, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Manav Kaul feature in supporting roles. The movie revolves around the life of two unusual friends – a paralysed chess grandmaster Pandit Omkarnath Dhar and an ATS officer Daanish Ali.

January 15 – Ghayal Once Again



Sunny Deol has co-directed this film with Rahul Rawail, with Deol playing the lead actor role in it as well. This action flick is the much hyped sequel to Deol’s 1990 movie Ghayal and looks cool from the trailer!

January 22 – Airlift & Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3

One is a serious movie and the other is an adult comedy. Airlift starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the lead is based on the evacuation of Indians in Kuwait during the Gulf War. Whereas Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 is a sex comedy starring Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani and Mandana Karimi in lead roles. It is the third instalment of the Kyaa Kool Hain Hum film series.

January 29 – Mastizaade and Saala Khadoos

Whether the movie fanatics will prefer to watch another sex comedy a week after Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, or a sports drama, only time will tell. Mastizaade featuring the hot Sunny Leone in a double role along with Tusshar Kapoor and Vir Das is a sex comedy directed by Milap Zaveri. Saala Khadoos is a bilingual sports drama directed by Sudha Kongara and featuring R. Madhavan and Ritika Singh in lead roles.

Movies Releasing in February 2016 - February 5 – Sanam Teri Kasam

Sanam Teri Kasam stars Harshvardhan Rane and Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane in lead roles. The romantic movie is directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru and has some good songs.

February 12 – Fitoor and Sanam Re

Two romantic films will release on the same day. Fitoor, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu in lead roles is directed by Abhishek Kapoor. It is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations. On the other hand, Sanam Re starring Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam is the second film directed by Divya Khosla Kumar.

February 19 – Neerja

The biographical drama film Neerja starring Sonam Kapoor in the lead is based on the life of flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who was shot dead by terrorists in a hijack drama in Karachi on the Mumbai-New York flight on September 5, 1986.

Movies Releasing in March 2016 - March 4 – Jai Gangaajal

Bollywood hottie Priyanka Chopra is all set to amaze her fans in a tough cop role with Jai Gangaajal. The director of the film Prakash Jha would also be making his acting debut with the film.

March 18 – Kapoor & Sons

The much-awaited rom-com Kapoor & Sons, directed by Shakun Batra, stars Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Rishi Kapoor and Fawad Khan in pivotal roles.

March 25 – Great Grand Masti and Rocky Handsome

The adult comedy Great Grand Masti features Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Urvashi Rautela and is a sequel to Masti and Grand Masti. The other movie that is releasing on the same day is action-thriller flick Rocky Handsome starring John Abraham and Shruti Haasan in key roles.

Movies Releasing in April 2016 - April 1 – Ki and Ka

Ki and Ka is a romantic movie featuring Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles. The film is based on gender issues faced in Indian society and has Arjun playing house husband to Kareena.

April 15 – Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN

The much waited movie of Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN will hit the silver screen in April. The Maneesh Sharma directorial flick stars Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role as Gaurav Chanana and Aryan Khanna.

April 29 – Baaghi: A Rebel for Love

The Sabbir Khan-directed Baaghi: A Rebel for Love stars Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor and Paras Arora in pivotal roles. Tiger Shroff would be seen playing the role a rebel and fighting for his love. Apparently the makers of the film have hired 50 people to keep Tiger Shroff’s look under wraps, as it is very distinct from his debut film Heropanti.

Movies Releasing in May 2016 - May 13 – Azhar and Mirziya

Sports biographical film Azhar and romantic flick Mirziya would be clashing on the same day. Azhar is based on former Indian international cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, who was involved in the 2000 match-fixing scandal. Emraan Hashmi would be playing the titular role. Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher will make their debut with Mirziya.

May 20 – Sarbjit

Omung Kumar movie Sarbjit is a true story based on Indian villager Sarabjit Singh who was convicted of terrorism and spying by a Pakistani court and spent all his life in jail in Pakistan. Randeep Hooda would be playing the title role and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would be seen playing the role of his sister Dalbir Kaur.

Movies Releasing in June 2016 - June 3 – Housefull 3 and Jagga Jasoos

The hilarious Housefull 3 and the detective drama Jagga Jasoos will hit the silver screens on the same day. Both the films have an amazing star cast and neither of them should be missed! Housefull 3 has an ensemble cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri, Riteish Deshmukh and Lisa Haydon. Jagga Jasoos has B-town’s favourite couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead.

June 17 – Udta Punjab

Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab has an interesting star cast. After ages, we will see Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan on screen alongside Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh. Shahid and Kareena were dating for many years, but split and are married to their respective partners Mira Rajput and Saif Ali Khan.

Movies Releasing in July 2016 - July 8 – Raees and Sultan

Raees starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan in the lead roles, and Sultan with Salman Khan in the main role would be one of the biggest clashes of 2016. The two movies are releasing on Eid 2016. It has been just weeks that SRK and Salman have mended their broken relationship, on Bigg Boss 9. We just hope that this clash does not affect their friendship once again!

July 29 – Dishoom

Dishoom would be one of the adventurous films of the year starring John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna, and Nargis Fakhri. With this movie, Akshaye would be returning to the silver screen after four years.

Movies Releasing in August 2016 - August 12 – Mohenjo Daro

The Ashutosh Gowariker directed and produced film Mohenjo Daro features Hrithik Roshan and newbie Pooja Hegde as hero and heroine. It is an epic love story set in the Indus Valley civilisation dating back to 2600 BC.

August 12 – Rustom

There is not much of buzz as of now about the Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom, but it is likely to be a good movie considering it’s directed by Neeraj Pandey. The movie is a romantic one and also has a murder mystery!

Movies Releasing in September 2016 - September 2 – M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

The much awaited sports biography M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story will show the journey of Indian cricketer and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The title role would be played by Sushant Singh Rajput and Kiara Advani would be playing the role of Sakshi Singh Dhoni, the cricketer’s wife.

September - Rock On!! 2

The date of release has not been finalised yet for Rock On!! 2 starring Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai, Shraddha Kapoor and Purab Kohli. The musical movie is directed by Shujaat Saudagar and will be a sequel to Rock On!! from 2008.

Movies Releasing in October 2016 - October 14 – Rangoon

The period film Rangoon stars Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut in key roles. This love triangle would definitely be interesting to watch as it is set against the backdrop of the Second World War. Also, Saif Ali Khan is the husband of Shahid Kapoor’s girlfriend before marriage, Kareena Kapoor.

October 28 – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay

The two movies Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay are releasing during the Diwali 2016 week. Being a festive and holiday time, it is going to be a challenge to guess who will rule the box office. The star cast does matter a lot for the viewers, especially on holidays. Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil‘s star cast comprises Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead. Shivaay is directed and produced by Ajay Devgn, who is paired opposite Sayesha Saigal in the film.

October 31 – Shuddhi

The popular pair of B-town, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt who have delivered two hit films together will be playing the lead role in Karan Malhotra’s directorial Shuddhi. Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were earlier finalised for this film, but backed out of it.

Movies Releasing in December 2016 - December 23 – Dangal

The year is going to end with Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan’s film Dangal. Aamir is already taking a lot of effort to don the perfect wrestler look for the film, undergoing training for the same. He would be seen playing the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in this biography directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
