The Punjab assembly elections turned into a trilateral fight, with the entry of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced severe anti-incumbency, owing to their 10 years of being in power. Congress grew its stakes as polling dates neared as Capt Amarinder Singh evidently led a successful campaign. To view election results live in Punjabi on PTC News, click here.

The AAP wave, which was strong throughout the first half of 2016, lost steam as the polling dates approached. While AAP was predicted to win 80-100 seats the surveys released in March-June 2016, pollsters dropped their tally below the majority mark as elections approached.
