The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders led by Gautam Gambhir have always been touted as one of the most unpredictable sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But in the past seven editions of the thrilling T20 Cricket Tournament played so far, KKR have twice lifted the trophy on two occasions. In IPL 7, Kolkata trounced huge favourites King XI Punjab in the final to bag their second title. The Knights, who boast of massive fan following not only across the nation but international stature as well, thanks to its superstar owner, Shah Rukh Khan. One can be assured of crackling season for Team Kolkata Knight Riders, who begin their IPL 2015 campaign against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 8 opening match, scheduled on April 8 at Eden Gardens. Coming into IPL 2015, the Knights are excited bunch due to the last minute clearance given to the participation over their stalwart – West Indies’ mystery spinner Sunil Narine. His presence in the side was speculated after Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) raised objections over his bowling actions. Kolkata Knight Riders have also pinned hopes on their latest recruit KC Cariappa, who is described as a “different” bowler. They predict the teams would find him “difficult” to crack during IPL-8. Kolkata Knight Riders have already started hogging the limelight, be it their association with new sponsors or the rescheduling of match time-table due to upcoming Assembly Elections. Going by the format of IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders will be playing a total of 14 matches, equally divided in home and away for the league phase. They will take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament’s inaugural match on April 8. They play Rajasthan Royals on May 16; in what could be their last match should they fail to make the top four in the table.
