From summer animations for kids, to action-filled films for adults, August features a variety of popular new-release titles making their television premieres via Movies on Demand (MOD) on cable.
SUMMER FUN FOR KIDS
Adapted from the video game phenomenon, The Angry Birds Movie is a feud between the flightless birds of Bird Island and the green piggies who invaded their home. Voiced by Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad, the ill-tempered birds fight to reclaim their home. The Jungle Book retells the classic story of Mowgli (Neel Sethi) through visually stunning computer-generated imagery as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery along with a few animal guardians (Ben Kingsley and Bill Murray).
ACTION-PACKED
Reviving their characters in the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron meet again in The Huntsman: Winter’s War Extended Edition when the evil ice queen is brought back to life by her sister (Emily Blunt) and it is up to the Huntsman (Hemsworth) to stop her.
COMEDY
A perfect summer escape is Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, the hilarious rock “mockumentary” starring Andy Samberg, which is making its debut on MOD before DVD.
DRAMA
Set in 1970’s Los Angeles, The Nice Guys follows an unlikely pair of private investigators played by Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, as they explore the mysterious disappearance of a porn star. With 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, this police drama is full of plot twists, laughs, and irresistible chemistry between its leading actors.
ROMANCE
In Me Before You, an unexpected romance buds between a small town caregiver (Emilia Clarke) and a wealthy, paralyzed Londoner (Sam Claflin) as she tries to convince him of the beauty of life despite his disability.

Film festival winners and highly regarded documentaries are among some of the indie films available on MOD this August, many the same day as their theatrical release. Highlights include:
Receiving a rare 100% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Lo and Behold, Reveries Of The Connected World examines the evolution of technology and its impact—both the horrors and wonders—on human life. Directed by the highly-regarded Werner Herzog (Cave of Forgotten Dreams), it features interviews from Elon Musk and Bob Kahn. Chronicling the career of Brian De Palma (Carrie, Scarface), De Palma invites audiences into a personal and candid conversation with one of the most dominant filmmakers of New Hollywood.
Adapted from a Jane Austen novel, Love & Friendship is a romantic period drama starring Kate Beckinsale as a flirtatious widow in 18th century London who attracts the attention of several suitors as she attempts to secure a husband for both her daughter and herself. The film is also well reviewed with 99% positive on Rotten Tomatoes.
In The Lobster, Colin Farrell is left with few options as the society he lives in urges singles to find their one true love within 45 days, or be turned into the animal of their choice. Rachel Weisz also stars in this highly original award-winner.
Also notable this month, A Hologram for the King finds Tom Hanks in Saudi Arabia on an ill-fated business trip, navigating the local customs with help from Alexander Black, a witty taxi driver.
