After the debacle of Samsung Galaxy Note 7, many users have switched over to new phone. Note that there are many users, who submitted their healthy Note 7 smartphones as they didn’t want to meet any mishap.

But since they are loyal Android users, they got another Android phone. Let me take a diversion here and tell you that if you are looking for a really good Android piece, you can check this Sony Xperia X Compact and Moto Z.

While you are transferring your data from the old Android phone to the new one, you must be baffled when it comes to SMS messages transfer. This is a tricky situation as for other data, like images, videos, audio, downloaded items etc., you can easily Backup Android Phone to Google Drive.

If you are worried about your SMS messages, there is an app that can help you transfer all the messages from your old Android phone to the new one. SMS messages are now important as users are receiving their utility bills and many valuable alerts on SMS.

A backup of your SMS messages is your primary concern. To get it done, Google Play Store offers you an app: SMS Backup & Restore.

How to Transfer SMS Messages from One Android Phone to Another

Step #1: First off, download SMS Backup & Restore app on both Android phones.

Note that both your Android phones should be on same Wi-Fi network; your mobile data may give you hiccup during the procedure, so better avoid it.

Step #2: Now launch the app on both Android devices. Tap on Transfer button on the main screen. A box opens and you can see some details of how this transferring process works. Here, care should be taken while selecting the option: you need to select ‘Send from this phone’ on the old Android phone, and ‘Receive on this phone’ on the new Android device.

Step #3: Both phones will quickly start looking for each other on the Wi-Fi network. Once the sender sees the receiver, tap it in the list. Data transfer will kick start

Step #4: Receiving phone will get an ‘invite’ from the sending phone. Accept this invitation on receiving phone.

Step #5: Once the connection is established between the two Android phones, sending phone will offer a few options like:

Transfer texts and call logs from the current state

OR

Use the most recent backup

If you are using this app for the first time, you should go with the first option because you don’t have a backup available.

Step #6: The old phone will quickly create a backup and send it to the new phone. This procedure will not take much of your time. After the procedure is over, a receiving phone will get a notification asking you: Do you want to accept transfer from: name of the sending Android phone? Tap on Accept and Restore.

Step #7: Now the transfer process is started. Once the transfer is done, your sending phone’s task is completed; now you need to perform all the remaining actions on your receiving phone, i.e. new Android phone. Once data transferring is done, the receiving phone will get a notification that Android phone with KitKat and later version allows only the default SMS app to restore messages. This means, you need to set SMS Backup & Restore as your default message app. You can change this once the transfer is completed.

Step #8: Next, you will asked whether you want to use SMS Backup & Restore instead of Messenger as your SMS app. Tap on Yes. You can always change this setting after file.

Step #9: Now the restoring process will start, and this takes some time. Duration of restoring process depends on the size of your messages data.

Step #10: Upon completion, your receiving phone gets a notification with all details of transfer. You can check all those messages and calls.

Now you can go back and choose your default SMS app. That’s it! We are sure that this app will help many Android users in transferring SMS messages from old phone to the new one.
