For book lovers, iBooks is an amazing app that can be used on iPhone or iPad. For better reading, I prefer my iPad that gives me bigger screen to read fiction and non-fiction contents. I can easily download some free books from the iBooks store; and if I find a book worth spending a few bucks, I purchase it.

But there are other books available free online, and they are in PDF format. So I was looking for a way to transfer PDF files to iBooks. Since I don’t use iTunes on my Windows 10 computer, I wanted to bypass this dependence of iTunes. And I found a solution to transfer PDF files to iBooks without using iTunes on iPhone and iPad.

There are two methods to transfer PDF files to iBooks; you can either use an email client or Dropbox app on your iPhone or iPad.

How To Import Books and PDF’s to iBooks on iPad without iTunes on iPhone and iPad

Before you go ahead, make sure that you have iBooks app on your iPhone or iPad; or you can download the app from App Store.

Step #1: Open your email account on any email client; for example, Yahoo!, Gmail etc. on a computer.

Step #2: Sign in with your email and password.

Step #3: Now, you need to send a PDF file as attachment to yourself.

Note that you must have an email account integrated in your iPhone or iPad.

Step #4: Next, open the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.

Step #5: You can now see a mail with PDF attachment in your inbox (alternatively, you can also access that PDF attachment from Sent item of your email account).

Step #6: Open the mail and tap on ‘Tap to Download’ to download the PDF.

Step #7: Once the PDF is downloaded, tap to open it.

Step #8: Now you need to tap on Share button on the PDF.

Step #9: You will see two rows with options to share this PDF file.

Step #10: Tap on Import with iBooks option from the first row.

It is done! You can now find that PDF file in your iBooks. Close all the apps first and also log out of Wi-Fi connection or mobile data. Open the iBooks in offline mode and you can still read that PDF file you have transferred recently. From your iBooks, you can email or print that PDF file.

How to Transfer PDF Files to iBooks without iTunes on iPhone and iPad (Use Dropbox)

If you are not using Dropbox on your iOS device, you should download the app from App Store. Once the download is completed, sign in with your email id and password. Now you can transfer or sync your PDF file to Dropbox on a computer and then follow the steps given below. And yes, keep Wi-Fi connection or mobile data open.

Step #1: Once the syncing of your PDF is completed in Dropbox, open the Dropbox app on your iPhone or iPad.

Step #2: Tap on the PDF you have synced into Dropbox recently.

You will find the PDF in Recents from the bottom menu.

Step #3: Once the PDF is opened, tap on three dots seen on the top right corner of your device screen.

Step #4: A menu will drop down; choose Export from the list of options.

Two rows will swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Step #5: Tap on Open In…from the second row.

Again two rows will appear on your iPhone or iPad’s screen.

Step #6: You need to tap on Import with iBooks from the first row.

That’s it! your PDF is now transferred to the iBooks app on your iPhone or iPad.

Enjoy reading or watching PDF files in your iBooks. Note that users can also transfer Epub books to their iBooks by following above two methods.
