How to Solve ‘Unfortunately, Google Play Services Has Stopped’ Error on Android

1. Update Google Play Services

If you are using an outdated version of Google Play Services, you may experience regular hiccups in this service. It is advisable that you update your Google Play Services on Android phone. Before you download and install the latest version of Google Play Services, you can uninstall updates: Launch Settings → Apps → tap Google Play Services → tap “Uninstall Updates”. Next, install the latest version on Android device.

There are two ways you can do this: you can download any of the links from APK PORTAL or APK Release.

Alternatively, you can follow the steps mentioned below.

Step #1: First off, deactivate Google Play Services [Open Settings → Device Administrators → Deactivate Android Device Manager].

Step #2: Next, uninstall Google Play Services [Open Settings → Application Manager → Google Play Services → Uninstall Updates].

Step #3: Now use any app that needs Google Play Services. You will be asked to install the Google Play Services.

Step #4: Once you reinstall the latest version of Google Play Services, you need to reactivate Android Device Manager: Open Settings → Security → Device Administrators.

In the end, you should reboot your Android device.

2. Restart Android Phone

If you are using the latest version of Google Play Services and still facing the issue, you can restart your Android phone.

Simply press and hold Power button of your Android device; a menu will pop up with an option to Restart. Tap on Restart and wait for a few seconds.

3. Turn On/Off Wi-Fi and Mobile Data

Check that your internet connection – Wi-Fi or Mobile data – is properly working.

Step #1: Launch Settings.

Step #2: Toggle Wi-Fi or Mobile Data ON and OFF one by one.

4. Clear Google Play Services Cache and Data

Step #1: Tap on Settings.

Step #2: Tap Apps (Some Android devices offer options like Manage Apps, App Manager or Applications).

Step #3: Tap on Google Play Services.

Step #4: Next, tap Force Stop and then tap Clear Cache option.

To Clear Data…

Settings → Apps → Google Play Services → Clear Data.

5. Delete Google Services Framework Cache and Data

Step #1: Launch Settings app on Android phone.

Step #2: Open Apps.

Step #3: Select Google Framework.

Step #4: Tap on Force Stop.

Step #5: Tap Clear Cache.

If this solution fails to work, you should clear data as well. Open Settings → Tap Apps → Google Services Framework → Clear Data.

6. Delete Google Play Store Cache and Data

Step #1: Start on Settings and then tap Apps.

Step #2: Next, open Google Play Store.

Step #3: Tap Force Stop.

Step #4: Finally, tap Clear Cache button.

You need to Clear Data if above steps do not give you any good result.

7. Change Language

This one is a strange solution but it has worked in many cases. Go to Settings → Language & Input → Languages. You can select English (UK) from the list of languages.

8. Reset App Preferences

Step #1: Open Settings and tap on Apps.

Step #2: Now tap on Hamburger icon from the top right corner of your Android phone.

Step #3: Next, tap Reset app preferences and then Reset apps.

9. Render Location Services Inoperative

Open Settings and toggle Location Services OFF.

10. Delete Google Account and Add it again

Step #1: Fire up Settings.

Step #2: Open Accounts.

Step #3: Find your Google Account and open it.

Step #4: Tap on Remove.

Next, head back to Settings → Accounts and then tap on Add Account.

Step #5: Finally, enter your Gmail ID and password.

11. Change Password

This again is a weird solution that has worked positively for many Android users. You know how you can change password of your Gmail account.

12. Factory Data Reset

When all hopes are dashed, Factory Data Reset is your last resort. But before this, you need to take backup of your data stored on Android phone.

This action will remove all your documents, personal settings, and all third-party apps you have downloaded on Android phone.

Step #1: Launch Settings on your phone.

Step #2: Tap Backup and Reset.

Step #3: Finally, tap on Factory data reset and then Reset device.
