Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards ceremony became the platform for Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan to spark a controversy. His statement over insecurity of his family in India supplied enough fodder to the moral majority of India to take social media to vent their anger against Aamir Khan.

But in all this rough-and-tumble on Facebook and Twitter, Salman Khan’s achievement was eclipsed. Silver screen’s Dabang, who hardly resorts to any controversy to promote his films, has achieved a new milestone in his career. According to statistics, Salman is the first Hindi film actor whose films scored more than 500 crores on box office in a year.

The combined collection of Salman Khan’s movies Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo crossed the figure of Rs500 crores in 2015. The collection may increase in the last month of the current year.

If we look at the box office (BO) collection of Salman Khan’s movies released till date, he is the biggest saleable star of India. During his 27-year career, he gave 72 movies, and the total collection of all movies comes to a staggering Rs 2,434 crores; each movie of Salman grosses Rs 33 crores.

Out of 72 movies, three were complete disaster; 29 were flop and three movies managed to earn returns. But Salman made the grade with his 11 hits, four super hits and eight blockbusters. Aamir Khan also entered Bollywood at the same time as Salman did; but he acted only in 40 movies and his movies earned Rs 1497. Interestingly, Aamir’s movies broke collection records of his own movies.

In terms of average BO collection, Aamir performed well as his movies grossed an average of Rs 38 crores. Aamir did only 13 movies in the last fifteen years and the success rate is highest.

The king Khan, who forayed into B-Town a little later than Salman and Aamir, rose to stardom immediately. Shah Rukh had done 55 films and his success rate is nearly 50%. Shah Rukh’s movies raked in Rs 1866 crores till the date; very few movies of Shah Rukh were flops, and this makes Shah Rukh a saleable star of Bollywood. Shah Rukh gets the major share of his blockbusters or super hits as he produces his movies.

Akshay Kumar made an entry later than Salman & Aamir; he did 104 movies in his 25 years in Bollywood. In terms of average BO collection, he is far behind Salman & Aamir. But a noticeable fact is that movies of Akshay did a good business, almost on a par with BO collection of Salman’s movies. Akshay could have toppled Salman’s position if Prem Ratan Dhan Payo would have been released in 2016. However, average collection of Akshay Kumar’s movies (a meager Rs 24 crores) is far less than that of the three Khans’.

Surprisingly, Ranbir Kapoor is far ahead of every actor in terms of average BO collection. The reason is simple: he came into Bollywood when 100-crore business was not seen as a miracle. Even a dud Ranbir acted in would fetch Rs 40-50 crores. This elevates average BO collection of his movies to an astounding Rs 63 crores.

Given the current scenario, nobody would like to leave India irrespective of tolerance level of Indians.
