For more than 100 years, well-known German manufacturer Audi has been creating some of the most exciting and high-quality road vehicles in the world.

Many of these designs have lived up to the car giant’s slogan of ‘VorsprungdurchTechnik’ — translated to ‘Advancement through technology’— and the Audi R8 Spyder looks set to continue this trend.

Audi has hailed the R8 Spyder as being ‘the new generation of the convertible super sports car’. Here, new and used Audi dealership Vindis analyses just what this exciting new generation holds for the motoring industry:

The Audi R8 Spyder is powered by a V10 engine

One of the most impressive components of the Audi R8 Spyder is the car’s potent, mid-mounted ten-cylinder V10 power unit.

This engine can achieve 540PS of power and 540Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, which means it has the ability to take the R8 Spyder from 0 to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds and post an impressive top speed of 197mph when you’re behind the wheel.

It’s not just about power and speed when it comes to the V10 engine though. The power unit is also naturally aspirated and is able to improve fuel economy by ten per cent due to a method deemed ‘decoupling’ where this is possible.

The Audi R8 Spyder is designed with a multi-material Audi Space Frame

In regards to the Audi R8 Spyder’s design, the car stands out by being structured around a multi-material Audi Space Frame — or ASF for short.

A blend of aluminium and carbon fibre allows the ASF to be both lightweight and strong in its design. This is reflected in the fact that the R8 Spyder boasts a dry weight of just 1,612k, a body weight of no more than 208kg and a torsional rigidity that is more than 50 per cent of that achieved from the car’s predecessor.

The Audi R8 Spyder has an intelligent control system built into its cabin

Step behind the wheel of the Audi R8 Spyder and you’ll be able to make use of the car’s intelligent control system.

This technology presents drivers with a number of unique features. For example, they can select from a number of driving systems — including comfort, dynamic, dry, wet and snow modes to name but a few — and get from A to B with a lot less stress thanks to an intuitively operated MMI navigation unit.

There isn’t much longer to wait for the Audi R8 Spyder, as the car is being released throughout the UK in late 2016. Stay updated with these Audi offers so you can keep informed about the best deals for the vehicle.
