Though his political career has been comprised of sufficient scandals and allegations to keep any investigator busy, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is determined to disparage his ideological enemies based on any number of manufactured charges. By far, his favorite targets seem to be wealthy GOP donors Charles and David Koch.
Reid has made countless references to the brothers from the Senate floor and in other settings, suggesting they are somehow acting inappropriately by using some of their money to support causes in which they believe. Tellingly, there is no corresponding criticism of wealthy Democrats like George Soros who likewise donate millions to advance their respective agendas.
He has referred to the Koch brothers as “un-American,” suggesting they are “trying to buy America” with their hefty donations. Additionally, he has castigated them for allegedly being directly responsible for the still unproven effects of man-caused global warming.
Conservative groups have apparently had enough of Reid’s attacks. According to reports, Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin is behind a push to charge him with ethics violations for “unlawfully and unethically targeting private citizens.”
Earlier this year, the Louisiana Republican Party urged the Senate Select Committee on Ethics to look into Reid’s use of official media platforms to blast the Republican donors.
According to a complaint Martin filed recently, the Democrat leader “has misused Senate staff or resources” in his zealous pursuit of the Koch brothers, resulting in “violation of federal laws and Senate rules.”
Martin explained that such a campaign has not been waged by a senator in “generations,” suggesting Reid’s ongoing campaign against the Kochs is “nothing more than a continuation of the thuggish intimidation campaign mounted by the Obama administration to target and silence people and organizations Democrats disagree with.”
Tea Party groups are well aware of such allegations as the investigation continues into improper IRS targeting of conservatives ahead of the 2010 and 2012 election cycles.
