2012-11-19

It is that time of the year again and so soon it has come upon us.  Yes it is the pre-holiday frenzy with Black Friday right around the corner I’m getting geared up for another holiday season.  It is hard to believe that 2012 is coming to an end and we will be entering into 2013 soon.  What’s even harder to believe is that we have been eBaying since 2000.  It has been 12 years since we first entered into the wonderful world of online selling and buying eBay style.

My husband and I first got involved with ebay when I came across a framed copy of a painting that someone was throwing out in my office. To me it was a very nice portrait of Manhattan in the early 1900’s taken from downtown Brooklyn.  When I brought it home and showed it to my husband he pointed out that it was a limited edition print put out by PBS.  It was number 33 of 400 or something like that.  He asked if I wanted to hang it up in our apartment and I said not really.  That’s when we both looked at each other and said lets try to sell it on eBay.  At that time we have heard plenty about ebay but had never sold or bought anything through their site.  We were a little weary about getting involved in the online world but heard enough positive stories about eBay to make our decision to move forward easier.

It didn’t take us long to set up our first account and figure out how and where to post the print of NYC.  We weren’t expecting much from my office junk find.  After the 7 day auction was over my husband called me at work and said, “Guess what? Our painting sold for $100 dollars”.  I thought he was kidding at first.  But he wasn’t.  We carefully shipped the painting later that week and our first sale on eBay was concluded.  We eventually received positive feedback from the buyer and we were now officially on eBay.

The months that followed included us selling most of our childhood toys and other stuff that was lying around the apartment in our closets.  Since that time in November of 2000 we have bought and sold 1000’s and I really mean THOUSANDS of items on eBay.  Sometimes I think my husband buys much more than we sell.  He has become a big fan of auctions and buy it now items.  There are some fantastic deals on eBay on just about anything you could imagine.  My husband isn’t much of an in-store shopper during the holidays and loves the fact that he can do most if not all of his shopping from home.

This year we compiled a wish list of items that we are looking to buy for our family members.  Including some gifts for each other and us. The list is actually pretty long but here is a sample of few items of that wish/shopping list and the links to those items as found on eBay:

You will love it. eBay buying or bidding on the item you want is so much fun. You never know if you could be the lucky winner to get the item you want at a very low price.
