We are delighted to welcome four new solicitors to our rapidly growing Dublin office team at our new office premises at 2 Ely Place – Michael Carrigan, Paul Gough, Caitriona O’Brien and Stephen Cowhey. This is in addition to the redeployment of our Senior Associate Solicitor, Pat McInerney, from our Limerick office to bolster our presence in Dublin. This brings to eight the number of dedicated solicitors based at our Dublin office, comprised of one partner, one consultant, three senior associate solicitors, one associate solicitor, one senior solicitor and one assistant solicitor.
The addition of these five new solicitors is targeted towards the specific growth areas identified by the firm in the Dublin market, namely commercial property, professional negligence, employment and medical negligence. The additional solicitors will complement the existing team at HOMS Solicitors in Dublin in the defence litigation, commercial litigation and commercial property sectors. It is also testament to the successful inroads that the firm has been making in respect of each of these areas.
These additions represent a twofold growth in number of our Dublin office’s team of solicitors since the move to new, larger, custom designed office space at Ely Place. These strategic hires are part of a larger organisational renewal being undertaken by HOMS under its strategic plan, ‘HOMS 2020: Getting Ahead of the Curve’. These four additions will provide a blend of established experience and dynamic impact and HOMS Solicitors is continuing to expand through internal promotions and effective strategic hires.
Michael Carrigan is a Consultant Solicitor and joined our team after retiring from the Eugene F Collins Solicitors partnership. He specialises in commercial property, professional negligence and dispute resolution. He also practises extensively as one of the country’s foremost leading expert witnesses on conveyancing matters and his expertise will bring enormous value and diversity to HOMS’ service offering. Michael is also an experienced arbitrator having acted as arbitrator in over 150 domestic arbitrations and three international arbitrations.
Pat McInerney, Senior Associate Solicitor, is being redeployed from the Limerick office to work from our Dublin base. In conjunction with Harry Fehily, Managing Partner, Pat oversees the commercial litigation non-jury area. He specialises in dispute resolution, including defamation, inter-company disputes and complex litigation, and professional negligence matters. He has particular expertise in the public administrative and regulatory law spheres which will be a valuable additional service offering to our Dublin-based public sector and institutional clients.
Paul Gough, Senior Associate Solicitor, joined the firm from Eugene F. Collins Solicitors. He advises employers on a variety of employment law and industrial relations issues and also works with the firm’s commercial department on various employment law issues arising in the context of mergers and acquisitions. He will also be advising on legal issues in the regulatory sphere where he will be an important addition to HOMS’ extensive service offering to the firm’s growing public sector client base.
Caitriona O’Brien, Senior Solicitor, specialises in medical negligence and personal injury litigation and represents private clients in the Circuit Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. Caitriona is experienced in high value medical negligence claims arising from the administration of incorrect medical treatment, surgical errors and hospital clerical errors, as well as acting in dental negligence cases and provides an important private client dimension to the HOMS’ Dublin office presence.
Stephen Cowhey, Assistant Solicitor, trained with the firm and has recently qualified. Stephen practises in all aspects of property law including large scale commercial transactions and residential conveyancing, as well as acting for both landlords and tenants in commercial leases. His retention as solicitor illustrates the continued commitment of the firm to providing internal opportunities for advancement and reiterates the importance of the extremely popular HOMS Trainee Solicitor programme.
