Acolyte’s Neonlyte 4.4 watt RGB was used to wrap the United Way flame on top of the torch that stands almost 60 feet above Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. For the first time, the torch was lit without gas. Instead, it was lit with LED lights.

The lighting of the United Way torch kicks off the 2015-16 Community Giving Campaign was held at dawn on September 21, 2015 and was attended by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, GM President Dan Ammann and newly appointed United Way President Dr. Herman Gray. It symbolizes hope and dedication, and is a tribute to the generosity of those who live in Detroit.

According to Mark Gadzinski, of Clarus Lighting & Controls:

“We chose NeonLyte for this application because the Designer preferred the look of the “continuous line of light” that NeonLyte provides. The Neonlyte is configured to provide continuous “rings” of light that are programmed individually to change color at various rates and in sequences designed to simulate a burning flame.

Working with the Acolyte Team on the United Way Torch was as rewarding as the end result. Acolyte pulled out all the stops and coordinated each detail to ensure that the Torch would be completed, commissioned, programmed, and fully operational for the kick off of the United Way fund raising campaign.

We could not be happier with the way the job turned out, the end result is spectacular.“
