Most people are blessed with great healthy teeth while others aren’t. Whether your teeth are in good condition or not it is important that proper dental hygiene is observed always since we only have one chance to take care of our teeth.

The good news is that with the advances made in technology it is now easier to have healthy teeth compared to decades ago. The bad news is that the primary enemy of our teeth, which is cavity, is still persistent today.

Here are some tips that you can apply to have healthy teeth

Brush your teeth regularly

To get rid of cavities it is important that you brush your teeth at least twice a day with a toothpaste containing fluoride. While several techniques may be applied in brushing teeth there is a correct procedure that provides the maximum effect.

Clean the chewing surfaces

For fresher breath, be sure to brush your tongue, too

Use dental floss daily

One of the best ways to get rid of food particles that gets stuck in between our teeth is by flossing. If the food particles are just left they can lead to cavities.

Here’s the proper way to floss

Wind 18 inches of floss around middle fingers of each hand. Pinch floss between thumbs and index fingers, leaving a one- to two-inch length in between. Use thumbs to direct floss between upper teeth.

Keep a one- to two-inch length of floss taut between fingers. Use index fingers to guide floss between contacts of the lower teeth.

Gently guide floss between the teeth by using a zig-zag motion. DO NOT SNAP FLOSS BETWEEN YOUR TEETH. Contour floss around the side of the tooth.

Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line. Floss each tooth thoroughly with a clean section of floss.

Eat healthy

Eating healthy food is one of the keys to having healthy teeth. As much as possible avoid sugary food such as sodas, cakes, pastries, etc.

Visit your dentist regularly

Cavities that may have already formed in your teeth and could not be removed by brushing alone should be examined by a dentist. Visiting your dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned is one way to maintain your healthy teeth.
