5S Battery Drain Issue On iOS 8
Problem: “After updating to IOS 8 my battery life has significantly decreased for the worse. After getting a good 8 hours of use with IOS 7 on a full charge i am now lucky to get about 4 hours before my battery dies with only moderate usage. Also my iPhone now gets extremely hot when i use for a period of about 5 minutes or more. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.”
“Yesterday i updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.0.2, since then my battery has drained really fast its gone from 100% to 80% in 10 minutes. I called Apple support and they ran a diagnostic test on the phone but nothing showed up. Does anyone have any solutions to why this is happening?, I always force close the apps after i finish using them so i honestly don’t know why this is happening. Is it just iOS 8? If so can it be resolved in the next Apple software update?”
Solution: One of the most common complaints of iPhone owners who updated the software of their phone to the latest version is the battery drain issue. No matter what they do (turn off unnecessary services, close apps) the battery seems to drain rapidly.
To resolve this issue try to check for any new software updates for your phone. The latest update released by Apple is iOS 8.1 which comes with several improvements and bug fixes. Your issue may be resolved once you get this new update.
In the event that this new update does not resolve the battery drain issue follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below.
You will need to back up the data of your phone since you will be setting it up as a new device. You can either back up using iCloud or iTunes.
If you use iCloud go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup. Review the last time that your phone was backed up. Tap back up now.
If you use iTunes
Ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
Connect your device to your computer.
Choose File > Devices > Backup.
When this is finished, view the date and time of your latest backup by clicking: Mac iTunes > Preferences > Devices, Windows Edit > Preferences > Devices
To setup your phone as a new device first turn off your iMessage (Settings > Messages > iMessage). You should also turn off the Find My Phone feature (Settings > iCloud).
To remove all settings and information from your device, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Learn more about Erase All Content and Settings.
Complete the setup assistant. When prompted to set up your device, select Set Up as New iPhone and tap Next to continue.
Once you have setup your phone as a new device go to Settings and find the General -> Background App Refresh option. Turn this option off for most apps that you don’t really use.
This will help resolve the battery drain issue that you are experiencing.
5S Camera Roll Missing After iOS 8 Update
Problem: I just did the IOS8 update on my iPhone 5s and now I have no album for camera roll and instead it has ‘Recently Added’ which only has 25 photos instead of my 1000+ photos I had originally before the update. I still have all my photos on the collections bit but not in an album like before the update. Help please?
Solution: One of the things missing from iOS 8 is the Camera Roll feature. If you use this most of the time then upgrading is really a deal breaker. The good news is that with the recently released iOS 8.1 Apple has brought back the Camera Roll feature. All you need to do is update your software and this feature will be back.
5S No 2G, 3G, 4G Toggle After IOS 8.1 Update
Problem: “I got very excited when looking at the list of items included in IOS 8.1 update this evening. One of the things on the list has been greatly missed, the toggle to switch off 3G and run on 2G only. After the update….. Options are exactly the same. Cellular Data on or off, Enable 4G on or off. Does anyone else have a different result after the update????”
“I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1 but the toggle to switch between LTE, 3G and 2G not exist and is described on the update list? I updated my iPhone via OTA if that the reason?”
Solution: This issue affects some 5S owners who have updated their software to iOS 8.1. While the changelog of this latest update specifically indicates that it “adds an option to select between 2G, 3G, or LTE networks for cellular data” some owners who upgraded say that the option is available on their phone while some say that it isn’t. As of now there is no clear reason why this is happening. It appears that this option is not available in every download.
Several sources say that Apple is currently aware of this issue and is working on a fix which will be released soon. You will just have to wait for any new updates for your phone for this to be resolved.
5S Blue Screen Crash After iOS 8.1 Update
Problem: Since upgrading to iOS 8.0 my iPhone 5S randomly gets blue screens and then crashes and goes into a loop of boot up, blue screen, reboot, blue screen, reboot…etc. My 5S did this again today when during my upgrade to iOS 8.1 via USB and I was forced to do a factory restore on it. The blue screen is still occurring after the restore and 8.1 upgrade. Is this a known issue? I was hoping this was going to get fixed with 8.1 but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it has.
Solution: You will have to use Recovery Mode to restore your phone in cases like this. To place your phone in Recovery Mode follow the steps below. Make sure to back up your data first.
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device’s USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You’ll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
Restore your phone using iTunes.
5S Cell Reception After iOS 8.0.2
Problem: After updating my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.0.2 I do not get cell service and the battery drains? I am not sure what you can do since I can’t call Apple and my phone heats up so it hot to touch.
Solution: When Apple released iOS 8.1 it broke the cell service of some devices. iOS 8.02 is released to address among other things this issue. If your phone still does not have cell service despite running on iOS 8.02 then follow the troubleshooting steps below.
In cases like this you will need to restore your phone to factory settings using iTunes. Some things to consider before performing this procedure are as follows.
Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.
To restore your phone
Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.
Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the “Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new or using a previous backup. If your iOS device has cellular service, it will activate after you restore.
If this does not resolve the issue then try to update your phone to the latest iOS 8.1 software update which is now available.
5S Won’t Turn On After iOS 8.02 Update
Problem: Hello so i updated my 16GB iphone 5s to ios 8.0.2 because i too had problems with the previous versions and after the update it had to restart my phone except now it wont turn on. After trying to restart it all it comes up with is the apple logo that comes up when you restart the phone and then after a while i will get the “blue screen of death” I have left my phone on all day to see if it will restart but still the same cycle of the apple logo and then the blue screen. I know other people have had successful updates with the 8.0.2 ios update but i haven’t unfortunately. I have drained my phone battery and after that it did display that i needed to connect my phone to a charger but as soon as it got charged it still restarted with the apple logo followed by the blue screen. The blue screen also has a single line running across horizontally, the position of changes after every attempt of restarting. I have also tried turning off by the home
Solution: Try to hold the HOME and POWER (aka SLEEP) at the same time. An Apple logo should appear in 10 – 20 seconds. Release both buttons, wait about a minute, and your phone should be back to normal.
5S Wi-Fi Not Working On iOS 8.0.2
Problem: Downloaded 8.0.2 some time ago but did not install it until a couple days ago on my iPhone 5s. Since then wifi doesn’t work at all; not using a router or cell phone 3G. I believed that Apple had the problem solved when I went to install; but, evidently it used the old download. What must I do to correct this problem?
Solution: A new software update is now available for your phone which you should get. You can now get iOS 8.1 which should resolve the Wi-Fi issue you are currently experiencing.
5S Bricked After iOS 8.02 Update
Problem: Yesterday I attempted to update my iphone 5s to ios8.02. The update didn’t appear that big and my wifi is currently out so I decided it should be ok doing it with 3g. The update appeared to download fine and I proceded to install. The loading bar was on for about 5 minutes at which point I left it to do stuff around the house, when I came back the phone was stuck on the black screen with the apple, I left it longer and noticed every minute or so the screen would flash blue then go back to the apple. I can’t turn off the phone or restart it, I simply wait until the battery finishes. I’ve tried since the battery emptied but still the same situation.
Solution: To resolve this issue you should first restart your device. If that does not work then do a reset.
To restart your phone
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
To reset your phone
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
