It is summertime and it is incredibly hot – so what do you do with the kids? Aside from Summer Camps, there has got to be more to do. Fear not, we have put together a pretty extensive list of family-friendly activities and events in Fountain Hills, Scottsdale and surrounding cities. We have provided web links for everything (click on address links for map and directions) as well as comments and information on the places we frequent. We hope you are able to find this useful and have an amazing and fun-filled summer!

Read below to see over 50 ideas for summer fun through Libraries, Water Activities, Classes, Indoor Destinations, Open Play Times, Creative Activities, Theaters and Kid’s Mall Play Centers. Within each of these sections, we have placed the listings into the distance categories below:

Distance category definitions:
In Town = in Fountain Hills

Nearby = within 10 miles of Fountain Hills

Bit Farther Out = farther than 10 miles from Fountain Hills

{LIBRARIES}

Libraries are a great free source for fun and educational indoor activities. Take a class, sign up for a summer reading program or just stop in for some puzzles, reading and computer time.

In Town:

Fountain Hills Branch Library

12901 N. La Montana Dr., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268  (La Montana Dr. & El Lago Blvd.), (602) 652-3000
This location has an awesome librarian, Christy Valentine, who teaches great classes and puts on really fun events. Our kids love the storytimes, computer games and we are having a blast with the Summer Reading Program. Check our Events Calendar for current library activities.

Nearby:

Scottsdale Libraries

The Palomino location has a really great play area and isn’t too far from Fountain Hills. They have loads of great classes for kids, like the Shake Rattle Roll dance and music class.  Mustang is worth the slightly longer drive for their Dads & Tots Storytime.  Check our Events Calendar  for more of our favorite classes or check the Scottsdale Library website for a full list of classes at all of their libraries. 480-312-READ (7323)

I have heard these passes go fast, but are worth getting to the library early for.

We hear nothing but raves and reviews about this Mandarin and Spanish language immersion school from parents and students.  So make sure you get on the list for their upcoming Mommy & Me Class starting in mid-August.  Mommy & Me language immersion classes will be taught at their school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Why teach your child a second language now?  Children are at a developmental age where their brains are most receptive to learning a new language.  Learning a second language enhances their critical thinking and problem solving abilities.   Studies have shown that children who speak a second language score higher on standardized tests. The earlier a child learns a second language, the easier a time they will have with the languages sentence structure, inflection, tone and other language components.
