We know that there is little that could dissuade the hardcore tech enthusiast from jumping onto the next-gen console bandwagon. But for those of you looking for a reasons to upgrade, here are 10 reasons that should convince you otherwise:

#1 If it ain’t broken…

The past few months saw the release of Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4. All these games manage to push current-gen hardware further than ever before, proving beyond doubt that there’s still plenty of life left in these machines. Microsoft has said that it will continue to support the Xbox 360 until at least 2016. Even Sony has had a good record of sticking by old console owners.

#2 Games Gallore

A huge library of games lie with the current generation of consoles, shifting to a new console would mean giving up on your old library. If you like gaming as much as I do, then having a huge lineup of game does help a lot. The upcoming major games will be launched for the current generation console as well. New gaming title such as Grand Theft Auto V has come out exclusively for the PS3 and XBOX 360. This shows that the current gen consoles will not be forgotten that easily.

#3 Rate Of Failure

This is a fact, when buying a next generation gaming console the chances of the console failing is really high. By failing I do mean complete system shutdown. Remember when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were launched? they had several instances of Yellow Light of Death and Red Ring of Death, respectively. Both were rampant problems for early adopters of the systems, and required costly repairs. In subsequent revisions of the PS3 and Xbox 360, many, if not all of the hardware defects were ironed out resulting in a more stable console. But do the next generation consoles suffer from any such issues? The answer is a big “yes”. The new condition for the PS4 is called the Blue Light of Death, commonly referred to as “BLOD”. This is the flag bearer for new console related issues, just like it’s predecessor. It will be a while before these problems are ironed out.

#4 Lack of Gaming Titles For Next Gen Consoles

Oh, how we wish it wasn’t true for the game lineup for PS4 and XBox! Well unfortunately they suck. They definitely don’t have enough games to keep the gamers engaged. Yes I know, there are several great games like Watchdogs (delayed by 6 months of launch and still not out ), and GTA V (sorry, forgot this one wasn’t launched on any next gen platform altogether).

What is the point of having a new console with either the AAA titles getting delayed, or not showing up for the console at all.

#5 New Features That Hold Little to No Importance for Indian Consumers

PS4 has some of the most impressive digital services such as online streaming of Hulu and Netflix. This seems really good on paper, but none of these features actually have made it to the Indian shores. There is no indication from either of the two company’s if they will come to India or not.

#6 No Backward Compatibility

Do you have a huge game collection of your old console games? If you do and are planning on investing in a new console, then just pick all your games up and toss them into the goddamn garbage. Neither the XBox One or the PS4 wants anything to do with them, as the new consoles lack backward compatibility with your older console games. Sad, but true. If you’re planning on moving on, then be willing to leave your past behind. Just hope that the new console offers some sort of relief. It feels more like companies are actually pushing us to buy new consoles as well as retain our old ones.

#7 Too Many Games Not To Keep Your Current Console Aside

Apart from the obvious, nearly all of Xbox One and PS4 launch games are also coming out for your existing console. There are a ton of amazing looking and probably awesome games coming up that are not going to be available on either PS4 or Xbox One.

Some of which include:

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Dark Souls II Devil’s Third

Final Fantasy X

HD Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

Gran Turismo 6

#8 Minimum Difference in Graphics

Bare minimum difference between Assasing Creen IV Running on PS3 & PS4

Watchdogs Running on PS3 &PS4

Lets get this straight, the graphics of the current gen console aren’t half as bad. In fact, the details on the upcoming games are gorgeous even for the current gen consoles. Yes, the graphics in PS4 do look good, but graphics is only half of the story as the current and next gen console share similar story lines, game engine, and plot. Graphics should not be the sole reason for you to make the shift.

#9 Unreasonable Pricing

Sony PlayStation 4 carries a price tag of Rs. 39,990, with additional controller and PlayStation Camera priced at an identical Rs 4,990. So you end up paying nearly Rs.50,000 just for the hardware. If that’s not enough, a single AAA title would set you back by anything between Rs.3,990 to Rs.4,990. We agree Sony has a very potent gaming console in hand and would be a boon for anyone to acquire such a console. But for half a lakh rupees we are better off spending Rs.16,990 for a PS3 and Rs.2,990 on its games.

After reading our review, if you do chose to deter your urgency to buy a PS4 and instead get a PS3. It will end up saving you lot of moolah. We do a breakdown summary for you to help you decide better.

The cost of a PS4 is Rs. 39,990, while the PS3 costs Rs.16,990.

Here’s a few things you could get with the 23000 you saved.

You can buy upto three Moto E phones, of Rs.6,999 each.

You can always buy another PS3 console for your girlfriend/boyfriend, you would still end up saving money to buy additional remotes.

Buy upto 10 PS3 games.

Buy the amazing Moto X .

You can buy 50 awesome T-Shirts from one of these sites.

Buy more than 200 McSpicy Chicken Burgers from McDonald.

Get a return ticket for Thailand.

Buy 2,300 packets of Maggi.

If feeling risky, you could always start your own online venture.
