Recently, rumors confirmed the fact that the big Cupertino Company has acquired another company. Apple’s latest acquisition is called Matcha.tv and it is a content discovery startup. The company formerly operated a website and mobile apps dedicated in providing recommendations for movies and TV shows based on user preferences.

Apples snapped up Matcha.tv for $1 million to $1.5 million, a service that once offered video content listings from both cable providers and online sources. The service aggregated content from popular streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in order to provide users a complete list of TV shows and movies available within all sites.

Matcha.tv was launched at the end of 2012, but it went offline in May, revealing the fact that the service will no longer be available, and all personal information has been deleted within the service.

Moreover, besides it database of users and shows, the video guide service offered personalized recommendations for programming based on tastes and it offered users the possibility to subscribe to shows they like and enjoy.

As it was expected, Apple did not offer any details concerning the company’s latest purchase and did not elaborate on the deal. During time, Apple purchased various smaller technology companies, but the company does not discuss anything related to its purpose.

After a long absence in the field of devices and software, Apple still captures the public attention. People all over the world hardly expect Apple to release new hardware along with the iOS and OS X updates scheduled for this fall.

Moreover, the company is expected to make another move regarding the living room entertainment. At one point, the company was rumored to be working on a TV set, more precisely with a focus on top boxes, where Apple could consider revealing something that would let users stream live and on-demand video programming, with help from cable companies.

Matcha.tv’s functionality appears to be a strong point for Apple as the company already offers a wide variety of content from different sources on its Apple TV. In this way, with the help of Matcha.tv, users will be able to watch TV shows and movies from the already mentioned movie providers using the devices, and Apple has been working hard to expand its content listings over the past few months.
