What Is Uber Momentum?

Uber Momentum is a rewards program designed to help Uber’s driver-partners save & earn extra money — from deals on phone bills to savings on car maintenance.

The Basics

Uber Momentum is a rewards program exclusively available to Uber drivers, first established in 2014 — Momentum was engineered as a customized program to maintain the health and growth of driver-partners.

By offering a range of discounts and services, Momentum is meant to reduce overall operating costs, and make it easier for drivers to expand their businesses.

What Exactly Is Offered Through Momentum?

At this time, drivers located in the United States (as well as Canada and the United Kingdom) have access to Momentum’s reward system. Depending on the region you operate in, rewards will vary — but could include anything from health insurance; to car washes; hotel discounts, and even discounted phone bills. For example, you could receive regular discounts on auto maintenance, or cut back your monthly wireless bill  — helping you pocket more of your earnings.

Although rewards vary from place-to-place, here are some examples of what you can receive via Momentum:

Health insurance recommendations

Finding appropriate health insurance is a highly complex task — something that many people (including independent contractors, like Uber drivers) — struggle to understand completely. Not only are many options costly, but it can be extremely challenging to understand what type of insurance is best for you and your needs. Partnering with Stride Health, Uber has created an innovative healthcare recommendation engine to all partners. Uber’s system helps driver-partners compare health insurance options side-by-side — making the process of searching for comprehensive coverage much simpler and more effective.

Reduce auto expenses

For rideshare drivers, vehicle-related expenses are often the most costly variables in their business dealings  — auto maintenance, as well as the cost of fuel, can add up and undercut profit margins.

With Momentum, Uber’s driver-partners receive significant and exclusive discounts on a range of auto services — available at a broad swath of auto maintenance retailers.

On many basic rideshare expenses (including things like new paint jobs, or standard oil change packages) Momentum helps drivers cut costs.

Momentum-based discounts are available at over 10,000 locations in the United States, as well as numerous locations in Canada (*Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, and Quebec City) and the United Kingdom (*London, Leeds, Manchester, West Midlands, Merseyside, Portsmouth, Bristol, Glasgow, Notingham, Newcastle, Home Counties, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Belfast).

Some auto-servicing retailers featured in Momentum‘s program include:

United States (up to 15% off):

Jiffy Lube

AutoZone

Firestone

Maaco

Valvoline

Midas

Meineke

United Kingdom (up to 35% off):

Jemca

IMO/ARC

RRG Group

Canada (up to 15% off):

Meineke

GM

Canadian Tire

Other Savings — Wireless Service Discounts

Through Momentum, drivers also receive a range of discounts on select wireless services (often around 15% off — though Uber is currently offering up to 18% off certain phone plans in 2016).

Momentum’s wireless savings were initiated after Uber discovered that 60% of drivers reported that their personal cell phone plans constituted a key rideshare expense.

It’s also worth noting: drivers’ immediate family members also qualify for wireless savings (Check out the bottom of this page for links to current deals).

Access Uber Momentum Today

In order to access Momentum’s driver rewards, simply click on the ‘rewards’ tab in your driver Dashboard.

Once in the Dashboard, drivers are able to access/view recent progress, in addition to seeing how far away they are from receiving a new reward.

In order to earn more rewards, drivers simply have to do one thing: drive more. In this sense, Momentum is meant to act as an additional incentive factor for drivers (similar to Uber’s Power Driver Plus program), leading ultimately to increased fare-collection and overall higher income.

Momentum — Points System

For each trip on UberX, Momentum adds 3 Points — meaning: the more you drive, the more you earn.

As you accumulate points, your dashboard will indicate the Momentum deals and rewards on offer, and which specific deals are currently available at your points level.

It’s important to note: you must reach 150 points every three months in order to access and maintain your rewards.
