People make mistakes; it's just part of human nature.  However, when a celebrity makes a blunder, they have to face the consequences publicly.  After a star’s faux pax, they are often made to release a public apology by their publicists, agents, managers or whomever.  Some stars will deliver a sincere speech like the one Jonah Hill gave on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon that makes us believe they're actually sorry.  But some public figures who apologize just don't care, and they want to let the world know that.

Let's take a look back at some of the most shocking celebrity apologies.

1.  Kanye West

Imma let you finish, but Kanye gave one of the most suprising apologies of all time!  When Kanye decided to interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards the public was pretty upset, to say the least.  He later apologized on Leno, "It was just very rude, period," West said. "I'd like to apologize to her in person."  Who knew that the boastful musician could show such humility?

2.  Hugh Grant

It has been almost 19 years since one of the most beloved stars of our generation, Hugh Grant, was caught in Hollywood with a prostitute.  Who would pay for a prostitute when they were going home to Elizabeth Hurley?  Grant’s apology was not so much an apology, but just an admission of guilt.  So basically he just fessed up, and continued to make movies.

4.  Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin left an awful voicemail on his daughter Ireland’s phone in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless pig,” it was leaked illegally, most likely by his ex-wife Kim Bassinger.Baldwin released a statement saying, "Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child," Baldwin wrote. "I'm sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child."  While Baldwin does seem sorry about it all, it seems that he is most sorry that it got leaked and that he got caught.

5.  Mel Gibson

Following Mel Gibson’s arrest for a DUI, it was discovered  that he was not only driving under the influence, but also said sexist and anti-Semitic remarks to the cops that pulled him over.  He then released a public apology:

“There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark.  I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a D.U.I. charge. I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena.”

Sounds a lot like his publicist wrote this one, doesn’t it?  He also has continued with his anti-Semitic slurs since the incident, so it looks like he didn’t exactly learn his lesson…

6.  Tiger Woods

The pro golfer was at the center of one of the most infamous scandals of all time.  While married to Elin Nordegren, Woods was caught having sexual relations with dozens of other women.  After the fact, during a 14-minute press conference he said, "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart," he said during a nearly 14-minute press conference. "I convinced myself that normal rules didn't apply… I ask you to one day find room in your heart to believe in me again."

Would he have apologized if he never got caught?  We think not…

7.  Reese Witherspoon

Fans were beyond shocked when America’s sweetheart Reese Witherspoon was arrested in Georgia for disorderly conduct while her husband Jim Toth was arrested for a DUI.  During an appearance on GMA weeks later, Witherspoon said, "I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse."

While her apology was somewhat insincere, we wouldn’t be that sorry either.  It seemed as though the police officers that took her and her husband into custody were a little harder on them than the regular offenders.

8.  Arnold Schwarzenegger

We suppose it is not easy to apologize to the public after everyone found out about his love child with a longtime staff member.  The former governor of California (and Terminator) attempted to make amends after the news was released.

"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family," Schwarzenegger said. "There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."

His then wife of 25-years, Maria Shriver, ended up filing for divorce soon after he released his statement.

If Schwarzenegger was really sorry, don’t you think he would have fessed up sooner?

9.  Shia LaBeouf

In lieu of Shia LaBeouf’s many indiscretions in the past couple of years, his way of publically apologizing was by collaborating with aritists Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner to create an art exhibit.  The exhibit was a small room with a table and two chairs.  Behind the table was LaBeouf wearing a tux and the now famous paper bag mask with words “I AM NOT FAMOUS” written on it.  By far, one of the weirdest apologies ever!

10.  Chris Brown

Months after the infamous incident in which Chris Brown physically assaulted then girlfriend Rihanna, he decided to make a video in which he apologized to Rihanna and his fans.

“I only can pray that you forgive me, please,” he said to his fans.
