Fireworks are here, and Diwali is here too. However, this is not a good time for many other animals and humans. Most of all, the environment takes the major hit.

It has become very easy to get fireworks these days. A marriage hall or a small shop nearby turns into a firework shop and people can easily purchase fireworks. Needless to say, there are even online retailers providing fireworks to your doorstep.

Brutal Life in a Fireworks Factory

A few images that were circulated on Facebook reveal the horror behind a worker who makes fireworks. Covered in gunpowder, the worker risks his life to make these fireworks so people could enjoy the festivities.

This is not the first time we come across laborers working in bad conditions in India, but it calls for something to be done. There are certain rules for the manufacture and transportation of fireworks, and in most cases, they go ignored.

Incidents of Explosions While Making Fireworks

Every year, a number of incidents that kill people during the making of fireworks are reported. Recently, a fire in Sivakasi not only injured the laborers, but it also killed people who were caught in a scan center in the same establishment with no way to escape. Some of them who escaped are still semi-conscious.

Other Problems Follow

Fireworks that are not noisy can be used as a part of Diwali celebrations. But the high-decibel ones are a nuisance to the society. Despite rules that bursting of loud firecrackers is an offense at night, most people do not seem to budge.

It is again not possible for the police to keep patrol at all times during Diwali. Firecrackers that are not manufactured properly can injure people who set fire to them as well. Every year, the accidents that happen due to fireworks during Diwali are high.

While firework manufacturers must refrain from ill-treating laborers, there would be no chance for them to suffer if the practice of purchasing these stops. Diwali is meant to be a peaceful festival where a lamp is lit and celebrated. However, we have redesigned it.

If you worry how the laborers will make their bread, people who make fireworks even in Sivakasi are daily wage laborers who know to do a handful of jobs. If they are not able to manufacture crackers, they could make their bread by doing something else. At least, it is better than getting killed.
