Upcoming PANJAAPOR Fall Event –  Probability Panels: Insights from the Field

The PA/NJ chapter of AAPOR invites you to a reception and panel discussion featuring representatives from our industry’s top research organizations discussing how on-line probability panels fit into the overall research landscape. Topics will include: how these panels originated, why they were created, and how researchers can successfully employ them in their work. Panelists will provide insight into the unique aspects of probability panels as well as address how they are maintained. Please join us for a fun and informative evening!

Brief bio of each of our esteemed panelists

Ned English – NORC
Senior Research Methodologist

Ned is a Senior Research Methodologist at NORC, where he has been involved in numerous projects related to sample design, data analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, global positioning systems, and data analysis since 2002.  English was formally trained as a geographer and so has extensive experience in the role of GIS and census data analysis with regard to survey methodology, analysis, and data visualization.  Ned received his master’s degree in geography from the University of Wisconsin.

Mansour Fahimi – GfK
Senior VP/Chief Statistician of Marketing and Data Sciences

With 25 years of experience in survey and market research methods and applications, Dr. Mansour Fahimi works on design and administration of complex surveys in the US and abroad.  Mansour is keenly familiar with sampling techniques and has years of experience with post-survey procedures including nonresponse bias analysis, imputation of missing data, computation of survey weights, and methods for variance estimation.  Mansour has extensive experience with data analysis involving multivariate techniques, time series, nonparametric methods, experimental designs, as well as procedures for analysis of data from complex surveys.  As a leading researcher in the areas of dual-frame RDD and address-based sampling methodologies he has been working on refinements for improving the efficiency of these methods by minimizing undercoverage and inconsistent practices for sampling and weighting applications.  In recent years, Mansour has been working on non-probability sampling alternatives to develop selection and weighting techniques that can improve the reliability of inferential statistics from such samples.

Prior to joining GfK in March of 2013, Mansour was the Vice President of Sampling and Statistics at Marketing Systems Group (2008 – 2013).  Before that Mansour held senior research positions at RTI International (2002 – 2008), PricewaterhouseCoopers (1999 – 2002), Opinion Research Corporation (1995 – 1999), and Westat, Inc. (1990 – 1995).  Mansour received his Ph.D. in applied statistics from the University of New Mexico in 1989, with M.S. in statistics, and B.S. in mathematics and psychology.

Chintan Turakhia – Abt/SRBI
Group Vice President of Social Policy and Public Opinion Division

Chintan Turakhia is Group Vice President of Abt SRBI’s Social Policy and Public Opinion Division.  He manages a diverse portfolio of public sector, academic, foundation, and media clients at Abt SRBI.  His research focus includes public policy, elections, education and health care.

His 24 year career in survey research includes various positions held at Abt SRBI, including Director of Sampling, Research Analyst, Project Director and Vice President of Research.  He has directed data collection for several landmark studies including the 2012 American National Election Survey (ANES) and the most recent 2014 Annenberg Institutions for Democracy Survey.  His latest research focus includes use of social media and technology in survey research and directing the establishment of probability-based internet panels including the American Trends panel for Pew Research Center.

As an active member of AAPOR since 1999, Chintan has authored and co-authored numerous academic and methodological papers presented at national conferences.  Chintan has served as membership chair of NYAAPOR.  Most recently, he is serving as a member of AAPOR investment committee.  His credentials include an M.B.A. with a concentration in Marketing Management and Research from Bernard M. Baruch College (CUNY), New York.

Margie Strickland – SSRS
Director of Advanced Methods

Margie Strickland is the Director of Advanced Methods at SSRS.  She is an innovative measurement scientist specifically in the areas of research sampling statistics, multivariate analyses, and online community development and management.  Her responsibilities here include all aspects of analytics and design focusing on sampling and weighting across all platforms, maintaining quality panel development of the probability panel, and measurement/multivariate analyses.

With close to twenty years’ experience in market research, Margie has vast experience in all research areas from advanced analytics to market research projects, from survey and tabulations programming to multivariate analysis and questionnaire design and report writing. Most of her current work has been concentrated on sampling designs, survey and questionnaire development and survey designs, research methodologies and client focus, population estimates, weighting, recruitment strategies, panel management, and both sampling and multivariate statistics (cluster analysis, concept testing, A/B testing, factor analysis, conjoint analysis and discrete choice analysis). Throughout it all she has remained motivated and determined to deliver the upmost quality research based on the client’s specific needs.

She has held previous roles at Symphony Advanced Media, TNS, and GfK. She received both her Master’s in Educational Statistics and Measurement and her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the event!
