Mummy says….’Being a mum has so many benefits but it can also be so hard. If you’re looking to add more fun, friends, and some extra earnings into the mix, then starting a mummy blog might just be for you.

I have been blogging for almost three years – don’t be fooled by what people may tell you. Blogging is far from an easy venture. It takes a lot of work and time, but it almost always ends up paying off in the end.

If you’re interested in starting a mummy blog, but don’t know where to begin, here is a 3 step guide to help you get started:

1.Pick the Perfect Name for Your Blog

Mummy blogging is all about learning and sharing your experiences with others. That experience often begins with a well-chosen name.

You can go with a clever name, or something short and simple.

Whatever you decide to go with, make it relevant, and always keep your brand in mind. After all, your new mummy blog is hopefully going to be your business, so treat it as such, starting with the perfect name. Check your chosen name is available across all social media channels – without hyphens if at all possible. Really stuck on finding a name? What about your own?

Write About Everything…Including the Messy Details

As a mum, I am well aware of all the happy moments and the challenges.

Most people don’t want to only see the good times of being a mummy – that’s what things like Facebook are for. Readers can have a much easier time connecting with and trusting you if they genuinely feel a part of your life. One great way to do this is by sharing all the moments you go through as a mummy. The ups, the downs, and everything in between. Most often, other mums are interested to know how you handled a particular situation. One useful goal of your blog could be to help others, so you want to think about sharing difficult times and how you overcame them.

Grow Your Blog and Make Some Money

Don’t worry if at first the only readers of your mummy blog are your parents and close friends. Many bloggers start their blogging journey this way. If you follow steps 1 and 2 from above, then hopefully you should have the basics for an interesting blog. The next step is to grow it. This means building traffic and loyal subscribers.

You can start by using an online SEO tool to check out other mummy bloggers. Why? So that you can learn what keywords they rank for. This can help you decide which you should use.

SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimisation, is a pivotal strategy for acquiring and growing long term, highly targeted traffic. Don’t ignore it.

Next you want to make sure that you’re putting all that content you create to good work. Share it on your blog. Share it on other peoples’ blogs. Share it on social media.

Do everything you can to get the word out on your blog. Before long, you’ll be seeing traffic numbers increase, and that’s when you can start monetising your site.

Think adding value to the reader first, then money for yourself second. You’ll be well on your way to mommy blogging like a pro.

So, what’s the first thing you should do to start your own mummy blog? GET STARTED!

The next thing you should do is follow the steps above to set up and you should be on your way to owning a successful website.
